When opened in solidworks the feature properties decription shows as : STL Graphics1

When saved as a sldprt and attempt to open mastercam, I get the error : no solid data in sldprt

If you have an STL file that is not to complex you can open it in mastercam then create the solid from the STL 2D wireframe by extruding the wireframe. You will have to create your own radii on any round corner before extruding. I just did this two days ago. There is also a

C-hook that will create surfaces from an STL model then you can use mastercam to create a solid from the srfaces.

C-hooks are applications that you run inside of mastercam that help you do certain functions. The one I mentioned above takes an STL model and turns it into surfaces. You can get a list of c-hooks if you go to the tools section at the top of this web site. Some are free and some you have to pay for. You can access the c-hooks in mastercam by pressing ALT-C.
