Best Way to remove this chunk of stock

File is named BIG PLATE.MCX

ftp://www.mastercam-cadcam.com/Mastercam_forum/MCX_Files/

The piece of stock in question lies on it's own layer. Toggle it off and on to get an idea of what to remove. I have tried surface rough/contour with some degree of success, but always get some anomolous activity. Also have tried surface rough/parallel with some success. I am new to this software and forum, but do have a background in Cad/Cam and machining. If someone has some spare time, I could sure use a walk through? I want to use a 3/4 dia n-mill for this project.

Without looking at your part have you looked at the HST toolpath core roughing with a STL that represents that Material you are talking about??

With surface Rough Pocket I will sometimes just use the finish option if my over lap is small enough. I will even go as far as to back plot it take out the moves I do not want then use contour set to off on the comp type and then use those chains to drive the operation. I will take time in my programming to save time on the machine even if that mean making up my own chains for tool paths and driving with the contour toolpath like I want. This to me is a lost art. When we did not have CAM systems we would make a toolpath by hand that was efficient. You can do the same thing with Mastercam pretty fast with all the options we have.

Another toolpath to look at it Surface rough Flowline. Pick oneway instead of zig-zag and use the direction to lead in and out of the material.

Another might be surface finish contour. On your advanced options use only solid surfaces. May even need to make a bounding box to get it to cut the way you want. Again this is all without looking at your file.
