X3 will read SW2008 and previous native files

X3 MU1 will read SW2009 and previous native files.

 

As always you have the option of getting parasolid files out of Solidworks and importing those into Mastercam.

 

I prefer to NOT use the Mastercam Direct option for anything.

You would only need it if you wanted to read in the feature tree. If you're just importing the .sldprt you do not need SW installed on the system.

 

BTW, I am NOT certain you could read the feature tree in from SW2006, I "think" it may be SW2008 and newer only but I could be mistaken.
