engraving fonts

[billet programmer]

I need to engrave some information around a dia. in Gothic characters. I don't have that font as one of the choices in the font folder. Can anyone tell me if this is easy to get a hold of?

 

Also, I haven't ever engraved around the dia. of a part before. Can anyone give me an idea how I would need to program this to do in a 4th axis on a VMC?

I get my fonts from here...

fonts

download the ttf font and unzip it... put the ttf into your Windows-fonts folder and I believe it will show up in your Mastercam ttf list.

 

toolpathing will be just a contour toolpath using axis substitution...basically wrapping the lettering around a diameter you give it...

I program the rotary from center..

Sorry about hijack, but my problem is about engrave too. I try to engrave some letters on 2.00 dia cylynder, but we do not have 4th axis machine, only a Hass indexing head.

Need help. Thank a lot.

The rotary indexer gives it the 4th axis...

X,Y,Z,and your rotary A.

Thanks Kannon, but the Hass head doesn't read the "A" move in program, it only read whatever we manualy program for it and it can't move at the same time with X or Y.

What you would need to do is create tool planes incrementally around the diameter of your part. Then, engrave as much as you can in one position, index, and engrave some more. Depending on how big and deep your characters are this may not look very good. I would recommend doing it in a sample part first. Good luck.
