HAAS EC 500 X0 Z0 help

Its been my experience that all horizontals have x0 on the centerline of rotation and + offsets from the c/l of rotation. Most fanuc controles have a few ways of controlling these numbers. Most have variables, settings or g52.

We just floored a haas ec 500 today and I found something odd. The x value is a positive number from the tool change position. If you want the spindle to be on the center of your pallet you have to put in a work offset number like x16.0. Then if you go to g54 x0 you are the center of rotation. Also the z is all negative numbers. This I think I can get around.

Has anyone set one of these up, and if so how do you keep a modal number for x0 and z0?

one last thing before you say it......i know we should have gotten a differant machine smile.gif

We have an EC-400 and two EC-300's. They are the same way. I'm not sure what you mean by "keep a modal number". We just program, set G54, G55's .... wherever we want on the tombstone and go.

That's funny! That's usually the response I get when I post Haas questions! cheers.gif

It's the same on my EC-500 and on my Mazak H-400N horizontal. Center of pallet is at some number in X appx. center of travel limit. My EC-500 is X-15.946 (I have it written on a posted note on side of the machine near control panel) I just punch it in my work coordinate and go. I would call your HFO and ask them if there are settings that let you do what you are asking. Don't worry about the "different machine" comments, I think the Haas is good value for the money, it's our second one. It's not as heavy duty as our Mazaks but they are half the cost.
