We are using amd 1.1 Ghz Athlon processor and windows 2000 professional and mill 7.2c runs great very fast. we are having problems only with video card caused lock ups. can run 1200x1600 res 16 bit color but looks like we have to drop the video hardware acceleration down at least 1 knoch. this seems to work except that you get leftover "junk" on screen that you have to hit redraw to clean it up (just is a pain) we are using a NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Model 64 video card. mabe the next driver will work better. BUY the AMD system !!!!

Bryan,

We are using a number of the AMD550's with the diamond viper cards and pleanty of Ram. If M.C. is the only application open it works very well, no problems. But if other apps are open M.C. becomes very sluggish. It has been discussed at length, on this forum, as to the possible reasons this occurs on some systems but none of the "try this out" solutions has fixed the inherant problem. This has been an ongoing frustration since VS7 was released and is one of the reasons I am reluctant to make the jump to WIN-2000 with M.C.-VS8.

Eric: Be sure to try the Detonator drivers from the nVidia site. They seem to work well with Mastercam, though my experience is limited to GeForce cards, not TNT cards. The chips are similar enough that they use the same driver.

If AMD had dual processor systems available, there would be no reason at all to buy Intel.
