Hello,

In MC9sp1 /surface rough/pocket/Cut depths

Has anyone been able to Leave stock on

the sides of there drive surfaces And leave 0 stock on The Z's as called out (Critical levels).

Is that what it's for?

Detect flats,Adjust or do not adjust for drive stock ?

Thank you

Tony

I use the Cut depths on the last page of the toolpath to leave an amount of material in the z-axis and then the stock allowance for compensation in the x-y plane. I have not tried the z-stock switch yet. Remember that there are more than 7 ways to do anything in M/C.

In a word no, the critical depths was designed so that doing a rough pocket with a .250" step down wouldn't leave .125" on a flat surface or any critical surface at -.375", -.625"... The detect flats will create a depth cut at the flat surfaces and then proceed to look at the next depth cut or critical depth as defined.

Hope this helps

P.S.

If you want to leave different amounts of stock on two different sets of surfaces pick the first set as your drive surfaces and your second set as check surfaces. Then go into your gap settings and set it to follow surface and set your gap setting to 100.00" or something like that.

As we skin the Cat's...

I have been Squashing edge curves into

a boundry ,Then I have more control over the start point.( Mostly for Steel).

Leaving stock on the Check surfaces,

And finishing your drive that is Z.

I would have tried that sooner but a friend told me leaving stock on check surfaces was a complete waste of time (VS 6),So I never tried it.

I'll give it a spin. Then I will call that friend!

Calling out the cut depth (With you own math calculation added) Too.

Thank's Again
