Need help with solids please!

I need some help here guys! Any help will be appreciated ! I have a solid part drawn and i have it at 1in in z , now I have a solid body extruded from 0 in z to -1. in z . I want to put the two together ? one represents my stock and the other represents a cavity that I will be cutting. I have been wrecking my head trying everything i can think of, i really thought boolean remove would be it but no luck. Any ideas? I'm using Mill X4Mu3 mill level 3

For the boolean remove to work, you need to Xform -> Translate the core solid (Z-) into the stock solid so they occupy the same space. It won't look right (graphically) until after the remove, but should give you the cavity you're looking to create.

Rob, that is exactly were i started and when i click on boolean remove it ask for target body (i click on my stock) and then it ask for tool body, (here is were i have a problem) I have to unshade my solid so i can see it since they occupy the same space and it still will not let me click on my other solid body. It tries to click on the same solid again? Im lost!

Can't you extend the tool body outside the stock body enough to select the tool body?

 

If one is "hidden" inside the other, you will need to move one solid to another level, pick the target, turn off the target level, then you will be able to pick the tool body.

I will give that a try and see if i can extend it. This is what i was trying to do when i had it above the other part by 1in.Sometime some of the simplest things can be so frustrating! LOL Thanks Man for the help

Are you clicking on the green ball on the "Ribbon Bar" after you select the target body?

 

That's what finalizes the operation.

 

Just thought that might be easy to overlook when you're frustrated.

Make the two solids different colors then

choose the bodies using the colors in quick

Rob, I tried letting it stick out past the top of the solid a bit so I could pick it and it did allow me to pick it but it gives me an error stating -

 

Parasolid Kernel interface error boolean error operation would result in non manifold body??

FYI! Just figured it out ! I had cut my tool in half and it was an open part and it has to be a closed part in order to do boolean remove! Thanks for all the help Rob and Jdowe
