Macintosh computers

I went to Mastercam training the other day with my 6 month old Dell Precision 6400 laptop. This has all of the bells and whistles right down to the solid state hard drive. The Mastercam instructor had a Mac laptop and he simply ran circles around me with his toolpath regeneration speed. How many folks out there are using Macs? I will definitly be looking at the Mac when my next computer purchase rolls around.

How much is a Mastercam worthy Mac? I was truly impressed.

Not much. It depends on what you want to do, either boot camp (dual booting) or virtual machines.

The only way I can get the stupid insane speeds I get is that my shop is full of macs so I use Xgrid (cluster computing) with a virtual machine that is OpenCL optimized. Basically I make up for my hardware shortcomings with added nodes/good software to run the clients.

It still feels to me like Mastercam is the program that is really lagging behind. You can have all the bells and whistles you want but it still doesn't use all of the processing power of the computer. So it seems to me like in the end, it's a waste of money to buy a really high end machine.
