when you have a program with surfaces, using DNC sucks for large qty parts. And cam only does 2 1/2 axis, also sucks

How's that positive attitude working out for you? tongue.gif

Just kidding

But, if I may ask; why are you guys doing "large quantities" on a DPM? Doesn't exactly seem like the machine for them.

I wish I could help you out but we've always programmed our ProtoTRAK machines on the floor. I have looked into writing ProtoTRAK-friendly G code but it seems like a big pain in the hind end as the machine's capabilites are fairly limited compared to a true CNC.

Sorry

We had an MX3 and we currently have an edge control here in our model shop. There are times where we program with mastercam in that control simply cause it's easier. The MX3 post will work in a 2 axis control as when the control see's a Z move it prompts you to raise your Z height. Either way it works great.

It's working great!!! My positive attitude is what let me think that some wizard out there has already done a post that he would let me use.

We have about 15 of the TRAKDPM's in our plant and have very good luck with them. When I say large qty's I really mean like 15-20. It is just a pain in the hind end to go to the Preditor computer to resend the program for each part. We do program on the machine as well as in MCAM.

To all the MPROTOMX3.PST will only do 2 1/2 axis moves. It works great until it comes to doing 3 axis surfaces. We also use the MPFAN post for doing the DNC 3axis stuff. It would be nice to put a surface program in the machine and just be able to run it from there.

Heeler, your shops trak mills dont have a 1.44 floppy drive? ours will also dnc from the floppy.

surely your dnc files are not larger then 1.4mb?

dnc files for floppy feed can only be "number" names,

with the *.dnc extentsion.

<1234.dnc>

as you said, would sure beat walking back and forth to the drip feed station.

peace~

Our managment determined that to meet the ISO 9000 cert. That we had to disable the floppy drives, to control the use of authorized programs from the network only. We tried, tried, tried, and then cried, cried , cried, when they wouldn't listen to the reasons for not doing this. mad.gif

well, that sucks, about the disabled fd's. frown.gif

maybe the company should by stock in a boot sole replacement business. smile.gif

if yor small production runs are fixtured or jigged,

the programmer could string the code 20 times, separated with M0's.

i dunno, i think yer sol.

good luck man..

peace~
