Lathe Roughing cycle

In the lathe8 roughing cycle for doing rough boring I have noticed that I have to create geometry at the end of the straight through bore (an internal phantom shoulder) to make the step over work. If I do not the cutter only takes 1 finish pass as if it doesn't know there is material to be roughed on the bore. I would have thoght the preveious tool (a drill) would define the stock left to machine and the boring tool would start there.

Any clues here?

Thanks all,

Andy

Andy,

You are right, in version 8.0 you have to create that extra geometry. Version 8.1 will have that fixed so that you can select the option to use the stock left by the previous tool(s) to determine the area to machine.

You want it to take multiple roughing passes

in the bore correct?....

on your rough parameters page click on the

Lead In/Out button and go into the Lead Out

page, click on the Add Line button, put in a

length (depends on your material left),then

put in 270. for angle, this will give you the

multi passing your looking for without having

to create geometry and chain it,v8.1 will

recognize the stock automatically but not in

v8
