Macro problem

Hi

I am very new to Mastercam and we are using V9 lathe, mill and design.

I have been trying to use the macro function to machine a stepped shaft in the lathe V9.

There is no problem drawing the steps and I can fillet where required but when I go to create a chamfer it does not work.

The help files say you can use Create - Chamfer but when I tried to chamfer when recording the macro it does not show up.

I went to edit the macro and when I use the chamfer it is blank.

Am I doing something wrong??

We used macros a bit in our old CAM system and found them very productive for a lot of our similar parts.

I thought I would start with a simple job on the lathe but got stuck here.

Thanks in advance

k_barry,

There is a "Corner Break" button in the Lathe Finish toolpath parameters. Would this be able to accomplish what you are trying to do with recording a macro? It will either fillet or chamfer all the corners of your stepped profile. The only thing is you won't be able to fillet some and chamfer others, unless you draw the fillets and then use the "Corner Break" to chamfer all the sharp corners. Most users don't record macros in Mastercam because of all the parameters to choose from and the ability to save common operations to a library to be used for similar parts. HTH cheers.gif

Thanks Peter Scott

The corner break will do in this case. I have not used this and it looks good.

It will not do in other cases.

I was experimenting to see the macro capabilities and came up with this problem.

It looks as though I will have to attack this productivity thing from a different angle. I will look at the operations library.

To Andrew, yes I did migrate from Smartcam.

I have to learn this Mastercam from experimentation and this forum, as my dealer is no help.

I got a couple of hours training from him (still waiting on a post processor he promised).

I have found more info here and talking to other users.

Thanks for the reply
