drafted surfaces

I do a lot of surface finish parallel type operations when cutting electrodes. Using a fine step over lets me get close to 1/4 - 3 degree walls, but once on the walls the surface becomes stepped. I changed to parallel steep but if the part is long then it takes forever for the cutter to cut up and down all the way across the part. I know i can change the machining angle but havent had any luck with getting it to run parallel with the part. Is there something I am overlooking?
