Mastercam Simulator

Hello, I am new to the forum and the CNC world. I just purchased a CNC lathe equipped with mastercam. The machine is not up and running yet so I dont even know what version of Mastercam it has at this time. Does Mastercam offer any type of simulator that is available to practice programming? I am currently taking a CNC class and can see how much of a help it would be to have a simulator available to practice at home.

Hello Kurt

I would first find out the most recent version of Mastercam you can run. Previous to X5 Mastercam offered 2 ways of simulating your toolpath. Backplot and verify, verify which basically allows turns your stock that you specified into a solid model and simulates material removal among other features, and backplot with simulates the actual toolpath displaying your depth of cuts, multipasses, and machine time etc.

Now with X5 Machine SIM was introduced which uses verify and backplot for a full machine simulation so you can watch the machine model cut the part to detect any collisions. Mastercam comes with a bunch of generic machines.

Check out the books in the Store section they could be a great addition to your course and will walk through all 3 simulation features.

Sounds like you have a control version of Mastercam could be "Masterkey" very old stuff, I think like version 3 or 4.

Not X3 or X4 but version 3 circa 1989ish. I think that you'll have trouble getting any documentation for that hopefully it came with the machine.
