Rotary 4th axis "cuttoff"

Recommended Posts

This is a total stab at it, and it doesn't backplot OR verify, but the code looks like it might work.

Draw your spiral in the right view. In the top view program a 3d contour, comp off and no lead in/out. In rotary page set it to 3x rot about X. Also feed set to inverse time in control def.

Again I could be totally wrong on this but the code looks like a possibility. Fun project!

A few things to keep in mind. This will require a center cutting endmill and with the y axis fixed on center it will in effect be like ramping which will require proper feed rates and ramp angle. If possible try a 5x tool path set to 4x output and a 20 deg lead angle. This will move the cutter off center and cut with the leading edge of the cutter.
