Plunge Turn in MX5

While trying some of the new features for X5, the plunge turn function doesn't seem to finish the final turn cycle in the bottom of the groove.

Has anyone tried this out yet?PLUNGE TURN TEST.MCX-5

Change the Tool Deflection Backoff tab. It is on the finish parameters page.

-This is to compansate for the tool rolling over and changing the cut dia.

Go onto the iscar site and read about the plunge turn tools. They have some very specific information and numbers regarding these values.

I changed the Tool Deflection Backoff Tab to zero and reran the cycle, it works great now.

The plunge turn module computes the toolpath assuming that the insert will flex and undercut the diameter by the amount of stock that you see. Mastercam's toolpath display, backplot and verify modules don't take into account this flex when updating the stock model. I don't know if ANY NC simulation package can simulate this insert flex.
