Engraving

Does anyone out there have the engraving package?

 

I am doing more and more engraving on the machine and was wondering if the engraving package was worth the money.

 

I would appreciate any and all input.

Hi Gene,

 

We've got the engraving package running here, and I really like it. I do alot of text and company logo's, and the engraving really allows me to "crisp up" corners and fine detail.

I do alot of projected engraving on 3d parts with 8.1.1 with good results.What are the the advantages of the engraving package over the way I am currently doing it?

I have it on my system. However the only thing that is worth the purchase is the Raster 2 Vector package which I have used thousands of times already.

 

I guess it depends on what you are going to engrave. If it is old school style outline engraving don't bother. You can get a lot of free packages that does the Rast2vec conversion. However if you want more of a 3d engraving it is a great buy.

 

Keep in mind this is coming from a student. However a student that worked at an engraving shop since the age of 5 years old. So I know a lot about engraving, plus I introduced it to my teacher and is now a part of the mastercam curriculum, especially since now it comes free with the Apprecntice Package.

What I like about the engraving toolpaths, is that it combines a z-axis move to draw a tapered cutter out of the pocket to clean up corner radii..cutting on the very point of a tapered engraving tool tip leaves a theoretical "zero radius" in a pocket corner...
