Tool Numbers Changing When Importing Operations

Why does Mastercam renumber some of the tools when importing operations from another mastercam file? It seems to be random. Is there any way to force Mastercam to keep the same tool #s as in the original?

In Machine group properties under tool settings you might have the box checked for "assign tool nubers sequentially". I think this sometimes has and effect if you are importing operations. I have mine deselected and i dont have any problems. Also my search tool library is deselected in the same page. Hope this helps

That stopped my usual tools from having 'unusual' tool numbers, but I still end up with "several" tools, that are exact copies of each other, with the same tool numbers. Kinda funny, when the post asks me if I want a "tool change" from my T01 .75" hog mill, to my T01 .75" hog mill ....

No, I have it unchecked. If I check it, I end up with the same problem as the guy above .... it will import my Tool 1, and, seeing it already assigned, will make a SECOND tool 1, in the next available slot, say, tool 6.... unchecking it gives me multiple Tool 1's.

 

I even wrote a macro to loop thru the tool list, and assign all the ops to the same *instance* of the same tool. But it doesnt seem to 'take', unless I manually go back thru all the ops and manually select it again.
