Single Point Tapered Acme Threads on a Mill

Hey guys I have some flanges to cut that have a 4-pitch tapered Acme(looks like 1/8) and I needed to find a holder and inserts for it. Maybe with a 1" shank where the insert screws in on the bottom.

Anyone have any advice on a good brand to buy?

I am just cutting 1018.

Thanks in advance,

regards...Murlin

I've used lathe tool and insert on a small batch of parts to thread mill an acme thread on vmc. Worked well, but it's slow ;)

Ya I know its slow but the guy only wants 25 parts at a time.

I might have to make a holder for a lathe insert. Unless I can find one at a reasonable price.

Some guys want a grand to make up a holder....

So you just used an ID threading bar for the lathe eh?

That might work. Might have to grind some more relief on the insert.

The tool I used was a 1.00 dia ID tool with 4 flats but it fit nicely in a 1 inch end mill holder. I did OD thread and I'm sure I didn't need to modify a holder at all, except for shortening it a little.

Yeah...a 1" would be rigid enough too....that's probably what I will do thanks.

Sounds like a radiac cut and your all good to go.....
