deep hole drilling

I have a prblem I run in to alot when drilling deep holes. If I have say a 7 inch deep hole to drill I like to start out with a regular jobber length drill which will dill about 3to 4 inches. Then when I come back with a longer drill I cant figure out a way for the drill to start at the bottom of the first hole but retract all of the way out of the hole when it pecks. if you put your star ht at -3 inches that is where it retracts to when it pecks. So basicly I would like the drill to start at say -3 and retract all of the way out of the hole when it pecks. I called local mastercam dist they said there is no way to do this in mastercam. I find this hard to believe. Anyone know a way to do this
