FBM mill and drill v. worth it?

We're getting pretty loaded at our shop and I'm looking for ways to become more efficient in my programming.

 

We do aerospace parts with somewhat tight tolerances in some of the parts. Is fbm milling worth tuning up? How much time can I really save with the feature. Granted, our jobs do vary quite a bit, we do have a good number of 2D parts with two setups top and bottom.

I do complex parts in the regular basis and for me FBM and FBD is a waste of time

even for the simple parts I have lots of other wa=ys to do work fast

But try it for yourself

Idf after 4-5 hours of trying you`ll grt what you want cheers

But I doubt you will be satisfied after 5 days

We do tight tolerance aerospace parts here as well, and I have given FBM a fair shake, but I was unimpressed. Found it to be more of an irritation than anything.

Like Bear said, there are better ways to do things.

My assumption was that FBM might save some time with repetitive parts with small variations but at the expense of control. I guess I'll have to find other ways to save some time.

i got to admit that FBD can be a fast way to drill some parts with a lot of different holes, but the machine time will be out of range

you better take 30min to program each hole than waste 2-3 hours in the machine

 

 

FBM is a total waste of time, the cycle times are ridiculous...

FBM is more suited to say, an R&D engineer who has a mill for a toolroom and just needs to get a few parts built, and doesn't so much care about production efficiency.

 

ie: if doing the toolpaths takes more time than the machine runs..
