File Descriptor in Explorer

In the new 8.1 when I right click for quick view, it works great. But a right click for properties and file descriptor brings up the descriptor tab with nothing on it... Has anyone else used this yet... Ver 8.1, PII400, WinNT SP6a

I couldn't get it to work at all, and from my understanding, Win2k does not support the built-in quick view. Is there a fix for this so I can use it?

The discriptor value gets filled in by you when you save the file. There is a box to prompt for a discriptor turn that on and save the file... you'll see

Yes, I've used the file descriptor in V8. What I'm saying is that files that I already have a descriptor attached to in Mcam8 will not read when I use the new right click descriptor tab in explorer...

Doing a little further checking I've noticed that it will bring up descriptors created in 8.1 but not the ones created in 8. They have to be re-entered to be available...

Here's some helpful information regarding File Descriptors and the MC8Descr and MC8View .DLLs.

1. ATL.DLL MUST be registered (using CNCReg) BEFORE mc8descr.dll and mc8view.dll.

2. On NT systems (Win2000), mc8view2.dll is used, not, mc8view.dll.

3. The fact that the "descriptor" page displays in Windows Explorer means that the dll is registered.

4. mc8descr opens the part file and attempts to read the descriptor entity. It looks at the version of Mastercam that the file was saved under to determine if a descriptor is supported. Only version 8 and above have descriptors.

Wouldn't it be great if you could scroll thru a directory structure with the previewer? Like using the up/down arrow's to move up or down to the next/previous file?

Minimal code, exceptional functionality.
