Roughing a contour evenly

We do finishing of oddly shaped castings. In MCX4MU3 I can't figure how to contour machine a given amount of material off of a complex surface using, say, multiple pass ball milling. All the roughing ops I've tried use a simple planar roughing scheme which ends up with a lot of air cutting. If this subject has been hashed before can someone point me to it?

You need to use a toolpath that will recognize the casting shape. The regular toolpaths assume prismatic blocks, and thus cut lots of air if you have something other than that.

Save your casting stock as an .stl file. Use a restmilling toolpath and select the "cad" file (stl) along with your drive geometry. Lots of the high speed toolpaths have rest passes options too.
