Rotary 4-axis Toolpath Question

I am running a Rotary 4-axis toolpath around a part. The path always wants to start near the chuck. Is there a way to make it start at the tailstock?

I need the cut to start from the tailstock side. I have tried changing the compensation side, changed from conventional to climb, nothing makes a difference.

Set Tool and Comp Plane to Bottom.. its dumb but it works

Yes, I found the same issue, and tried many a time until stumbled upon the Bottom Comp.

 

I've certainly found Rotary4 Axis toolpaths not so great in Mastercam.

No Worries, I spend more time then I should have solving the same issue for a customer.

If your're doing multi-axis locked to 4-axis output, try morph between curves or something like that. Sorry, it's been a loooong time and i'm trying to go from memory. Pick the 1st one by the tailstock, the 2nd by the rotary. That should make the path start at the 1st one and move to the 2nd one. Sorry if i'm off course, but i've had exactly the same problem and was able to solve it, but it's been a year or so since i've had to to it.

Toolpath>Multiaxis>Wireframe>Morph between 2 Curves (Hands down the best multiaxis path, my goto path 98% of the time) you can control the direction of cut based on "First" and "second" Chains, Like Mr. Wizzard said.

Nice. That works out pretty good. I will try it tomorrow on the actual part and see how it does.

I will typically use a 5 axis Multi Surf locked to 4, gives you far more control.

 

Never a fan of the 4 axis rotary path
