issue with toolpaths

I setup my part for wireedm. I am getting there but need some help. I choose toolpath-->4 Axis

 

I have a Hole with a flat(key look) straight 3/16" deep. Then it becomes a 1° taper to the otherside . I first selected the Top flat edge and then the hole for the 1st contour but when I select another(bottom 1° key) it says "The selected sub-chain does not touch the branch point" How do I get it do work of is there another means of setting the 4-axis up properly?

if it is telling you the chain doesn't touch the branch point.... then you need to connect your wireframe to form a continuous chain.

first you need to create the thread point, break the geometry that you want to lead onto and chain the bottom first than the top.

 

Turn on the C-Plane option when chaining.

I got my thread points in there!

 

Now where do I break the geometry? The transition edge between the straight 3/16 and the 1° taper ??

I am getting some headway with this. Would I rather use contour or 4-Axis. with the 1° taper occuring in the middle of my piece ?

Can you send me the solution file so I can see and understand how you got there. I know how to set up chains and get to the cutting stage but I know I am doing it wrong and need some direction.

right now the bottom of the WEDM tool is inside the bottom of my part and the top ismuch higher that the part itself

Hey again,

 

I think I got some head way with this.Anyone want ot check out my update! I did not do a taper hole yet as I think I am not ready and then next I will do a straight to taper transition. Baby steps.....

 

Let me know if eveything looks suitable or if you would do it differently?
