Thread Re-Cutting Made Simple by Weiler

Seen the prototrak one???

Looks simpler than this :D

Yes, I have. Southwestern makes a great control in the Proto-TRAK.system.

However, you don't see a Proto-TRAK on a lathe with a 14" thru hole capable of handling Oil-Field Pipe Couplings and Pipe Upsets.

There's a reason for that. ;)

Weiler lets you override spindle RPM and feed mid-pass and while between passes without losing lead.

You can feed-hold and pause between passes without losing lead.

The underlying CNC hardware of a Weiler is a Siemens 840D with Weiler's own front end.

Overall programming is just as friendly as a Proto-TRAK but I find the operation of a Weiler far more intuitive.

It does have it's quirks, but if you've ever used an engine lathe, a Weiler is a breeze.

When it comes to re-cutting threads, nobody else comes close to the ease of a Weiler.

Weiler is a better class of machine all round - no doubt. Siemens is more powerfull - no doubt. We have 2x shop turns on both our turning centres here and love it.

But prototraks take a lot of beating bang for buck.

Without a doubt.

The TRAK Lathe is an exceptional value.
