NAK55

Has anyone had any dealing with drilling and cutting NAK55 steel. I have a project comimg up with alot of work and wondering how this stuff drills,cuts and taps..I use sumitomo carbide high speed drill and mill star insert cutters and just your regular run of the mill end mills with TiAIN coating.

 

What is this material compariable to when maching and drilling.. Should I machine it as if it were a P-20 steel ??

you should be fine using cutters mentioned .I have cut a bunch of this stuff and I treat it Like hi hard p-20. Drills and taps fine. I have found it to be more stable than p-20 when removing large amount of material.

All the articles I've read say cuts with ease but wasn't sure about the real world applications lol..thanks again

I always wondered what Nak was. I have that listed on my wire machines as a material. I guess that's why they changed it to P-20 on newer machine.
