Fanuc 31i 5 axis motion

We've an old (1995) Cincinnati  gantry mill.

The control was giving us trouble and we couldn't keep it running.

The iron is rock solid, but  Cinci  quoted $350 to $500K to retrofit it to a new control.

A local retrofit shop put in a Fanuc 31i for $150K.

 

The machine is up and running, I've got a working post and the test block program I ran passed CMM

inspection with fly colors ... now its time for the real work.

 

I'm getting ready to run a vane roughing file... a Ø1.5 button cutter at 100ipm.

Motion is pretty smooth,  much better than the old Cinci control..

 

This is my first experience with Fanuc 31i and 5x motion..

 

 

I was afraid I'd have to run gage length tool comp to get smooth motion, but the control

is handling G43.4 well.  

Motion is smooth with minimal jerkiness or hestitaing in corners but  I was wondering..

Is there a smoothing  or high speed look ahead command I should be running with these toolpathr??

 

I know there is high speed look ahead for 3X surfacing, but do these commands apply to 5X motion??
