pipe taps

Has anyone done much with pipe taps and Mastercam? Particulary a 2-1/2" npt, I was wondering how to thread mill it or how deep the tap should go.

Search for the discussion thread that this was previously covered in. As far as the depth of the thread, please refer to your "bible". That would be the "machinist handbook" for beginners. The info you will find will there should explain how deep you need to go to get the correct depth. Or you could buy a "go/no go gage" and keep lowering the tap depth until the depth is correct on the gage.

I was already aware of the c-hook and the bible isn't all that specific about the depth. Would like to make sure about the handbook's depth and my math. Just thought someone might know off hand. 2-1/2"-8 NPT's aren't all that common. The thread gage is on the way. Thanks.

I generally end up going to the H28 thread Manual...Fed-Std-H28a.... whenever I need to calc thread parameters..
