AUTO DIMENSION

Is there a software out there that will automatically dimension a file for you?  I know Solidworks will auto dimension a native solid part but I don't think it works for non-native parts.  Our quote department was wondering about this because they currently use Solidworks to dimension sizes on incoming jobs.  They would like to try and streamline this and make it quicker.

The quote department does not create detailed prints.  They create a very generic print for ordering material.  We are talking bare bones prints.  Length x width x height and that's it.  I was hoping there would be something out there that could do this.

I don't know about anything that will do it automatically, but with Mastercam you could use create -> Bounding Box  for creating a stock size, then dimensioning would be rather quick

Another option for cylindrical objects is the silhouette boundary c-hook which can give you a good profile for a rough turned object..

I use Mastercam, I create a fast WCS and the a boundry box and then top it off with 3 dim to get what I need. this take just a few mins really less then 5 min to do.

Or use the Verisurfs Tools Minium Bounding box and it will create a WCS for you.

Thanks for the info.  I will pass it along to our quote department.  Seems like creating a bounding box is the way to go.
