old dwg converter's

don't know if this has been asked, yet?Probably has,...but, does anyone know where to get a converter for autocad 12 and under,for v8...my v8 only opens 13 and higher...why is that?..how come it's not standard....hmmmmmm?

I have the same problem, in fact, it crashes mastercam when I do it. Would the fact that it was done on a Mac be an issue?

And, when I DO get it to work on newer formats,( from ibm), it doesn't bring in geometry, just dimensions and borders. (I was told they were exported with all entities, btw)

?????? never had it crash on me.it just won't convert 'cause it's not 13 or higher.right now i'm opening dwg file's thru v7. kinda stinks.is this an add-on, that's gonna cost $$$...?

LOL, I was gonna do it in 7 too, till it asked for an authorization code!!!

You should have the codes you need to turn the DWG on in V7. Just ask for the paper work or call DTC and have them look up your old code. I know that it is there!

i asked my dealer for a code also. they tell me they know nothing of it....i think's it's time to find a new dealer!!

Either DWG or DXF is seperate, It's $100 for the code. I think that was for DWG ...

When I upgraded from 7 to 8 I didn't have to pay an additional fee ..I am right up the road from you and my dealer id services4automation out of maynard mass ..their pretty good ..if you want anymore info you can email me direct.

I still have no clue why MC crashes when trying to import .dwg files from a mac, or why when it does convert from an IBM, it doesn't import the geometry, just dims/borders etc.

I've been looking for a stand alone converter that will do the job, anyone got one?

Is the DWG file from Mech. Desktop? This would explain only dim's and borders in the file. The Acad user first has to select the model, then explode and save under new name.

That makes sense. Will try it. Luckily, we're gonna be moving away from all the Autodesk stuff, and on to ProE, there's still a few residual files coming thru tho.

I'm still curious why it crashes on the mac's binary .dwg's.
