Hole Center selection issues for holes with tapping

Dear,

I am working on IGS file imported in MasterCAM. The part from aerospace industry has holes with tapping. After importing model in mastercam , i am using the command "Create curver on all edges" to make the profile selectable. However for holes with tapping , multiple center points are created. the distance between the points vary between 0.01 to 0.03 mm. This is inducing error of upto 30 microns in product where we have high accuracy requirement. Please guide regarding how to get rid of the problem

Regards

Many times with IGES files any curves that you create will coming in as splines. This is caused by the tolerance in the IGES file itself.  Even a flat surface with holes can produce splines.

Depending on your version, as pointed out, you could use the Hole Axis feature in Mastercam, if you're using and earlier version, you didn't state what version you were working in, you can probably find the Veri-surf Hole Axis that was a free download offered by Verisurf

Another option yet would be to dump the IGES file and get a format that supports solids, parasolid, step files immediately come to mind.

I will only accept an iges file if there is no way to get anything else

Splines won't have a center point...

What you could have going on is to circles on top of each other...one made by the edge of the standing wall of the hole...the other by the hole in the flat surface....

Delete all wire frame on your iges geometry.

Set your tolerance high in configuration. Create edge curves on just the flat surface. Simplify all splines just in case mastercam create a spline on any.

I am pretty sure a closed spline will not have a center point, only arcs have center points. One more possible cause would be if the surface of the hole is in 2 pieces you will know when you click on it if it just highline 180 degrees of the arc. But if you use the trimmed flat surface to get your edges from you should be OK unless the export was done with ridiculously loose tolerances.
