Using .ipt files from Inventor in Mastercam X9

Hi All,

Short background: I'm am Autodesk draftsman and have recently started working for a company that uses Mastercam. I send files from Inventor (DXF) to the machine shop, which uses Mastercam X9. I was under the impression that parts can be cut directly from the 3D .IPT file, where the operator doesn't have to add tool path etc. Is this true? Can I shorten the technician's process by sending him 3D .IPT files?  Can anyone explain the process a bit?

Thank you

On the Mastercam end, the user will need to have InventorView installed, it's available on the Mastercam website....

Are you sure about that JP? I'm pretty sure that you can open .ipt files without InventorView. I thought InventorView was only required to view .idw drawings. It's been a while, so I could be wrong.

I am pretty certain at one time though, youat least you had to have it installed....still need it, I have not tested it recently, I just install it if I know there are Inventor files involved
