  1. Thanks for your help guys. I figured it out. I had to go out of the tutorial and do a program search to find the C8.ge3 program. It is not where the tutorial said it was. Me and one of the students did a little work on it today and got past this point. If I have any more troubles, I will be sure to ask. BTW - I am currently making parts for the physics department's trebuchet or pumpkin chucker as folks in North Carolina call it when they can't speak French. When it is completed, I will post the pics.
  2. Hello all, I know this is an instructor problem, but I am at a loss. Do any of you know anything about the CAM/Co2 Mastercam tutorial that is sold by Applied Technologies? It works along with the table top Intelitec mini mill and it walks the students though the entire process of milling a 3D car body out of balsam wood. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a million!
  3. Hello out there, Anyone of you have the tutorial for the CAM/co2 car? If so, how do you get it to operate properly? I was told to run it on version 6 mastercam, but when I call up the C8.ge3 file it says version 9 and that the file is corrupt or invalid. I am up to version X, but I have had to regress with this tutorial. It has been a struggle and I still don't having it running. any help would be greatly appreciated. Sharon
  4. I am looking for a website that will let me take a picture copy it a import it into a drawing in Mastercam. What I am looking for is a picture of a horses head. The product I am making is a sign for a farm.
  5. That would be as fine as frog hair split four ways. Just let me know so I can go to the bank and get some cash. May run up a tab while we're at it. Glad to hear you will be at the meeting. Hopefully I won't overdo it the night before like I did last year.
  6. So far so good this semester. I have three race car guys who are pushing the envelope this time so that is why I am in the forum so much. It forces me to learn new things so I am not complaining. We have changed the machining program and now it is a subset of the Mechanical Engineering program along with the drafting and manufacturing programs. I think it will work out for everyone. Are you going to be at the AIMS meeting in April? Take care and come see me sometime if you are in the neighborhood.
  7. Thanks guys, I will give those suggestions a try. This is the best website in my favorites. It is really nice to have something that is helpful as well as entertaining. Sharon
  8. Need a little help guys, What do you do to import drawings from solidworks 2004 into MasterCam? Is there a special download or do I need to buy some software? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time. Sharon

  10. Hello Mike, We also have to consult industry for our jobs and we do so by having bi-yearly meetings with area employers. The forums here are also a great resource and I am glad that I started coming to them to learn. My students here know how to read blueprints, use MasterCAM and other software, setup, measure, and trouble shoot programs by the time they finish the degree. That doesn't mean they know everything and I tell them that a ton of their knowledge will come when they hit that first job. So attitude is everything. Also, the drafting/engineering students who take the courses as electives come out of it with an appreciation of work holding and keeping things simple. I tell them that putting it on paper is the easy part and they learn that when they set up,fixture and make the part. I made a good living in industry just knowing how to measure as well as all the other stuff. I had a great stand alone course in metrology back in the mid 80's at a community college and it has served me well over the years. How do you know it is right unless you know how to measure it? I hope my two cents worth has had something you could use. Good luck on the grant!
  11. I have to agree with Kevangel. Attitude is so important - have any of you worked with a master machinist who had a rotten attitude? Makes life hard for those who have to work with him. Of course you also have to have the technical experience to keep the job. You just can't get by with good looks and a sweet disposition.
  12. I have to agree with Harryman about the 6061. I use it for all tests and it is easy to tap. I have a VF-0 and we use G84. Use peck whenever you can, I find that it stops a lot of problems with deep holes. The cold feet thing will go away - just takes a little time. Good luck!

  14. What do you have to do to get a calendar?

  16. Thanks for the help. Hopefully this will get me through the semester without any trouble. Tell Everyone there at Barefoot hello for me.
  17. Wow! When you call for help, you sure get it! Thanks to you all. BTW - got the thing working by using Cimco as Chip recommended. Once you learn how to do it, then it is easy. Wish everything was like that. Please don't be frightened Storkman. I am not out to prove a point, or make a statement. I'm just a worker bee like everyone else, I just wear makeup and perfume to the shop. Thanks again gang for your help.
  18. Thanks, I will try that as well - so far things are not going too well. It would help if I didn't have so many distractions i.e. the phone, visitors, paperwork, etc. Maybe I can get this problem ironed out before Monday. Got a couple of calls into some friends close by for some help.
  19. Thanks a million! Will give it a try today and let you know if I am successful.
  20. Hello all, new person here to the forum. Would any of you have some suggestions on getting large programs to a HAAS mill using DNC. When it says "send to Machine" when I post, I check to see if the parity, baud rate etc. are the same, but the RS232 still says "waiting". Should I buy a communication software like ProComm? And if so, where do I find ProComm? Thanks a million for your time. Sharon
