Mr. P- The cable is basic on this control: For a DB25 pin on the PC to Fanuc: 1-----Earth Ground on PC connector 2-----3 3-----2 4 - 5 jumped together on CNC 6-8-20 jumped together on CNC 7-----7 signal ground If your cable is good, you will normally get the LSK flashing if your jumpers are ok. If 4-5 / 6-8-20 are not right you will get an alarm when you attempt to read. Visit your local Radio Shack for part #276-1401 and get an RS232 tester for $15.00. Your best investment. Put this inline and it will tell you if you are getting signal. We have complete documentation on this tester as well as troubling steps on CNC communications.If you don't want to bother with the making of the RS232 cable, and want to eliminate soldiering and crimping, visit our website for a Predator Grizzly Cable. Simply plug and communicate! Support for baud rates up to 38.4+ and up to 300 feet from the PC.
  2. The Bridgeport control uses the standard Faunc wiring. If you don't know this, please call us and we will be happy to provide this. Also - there is a company called EMI which are Bridgeport Specialist. They know is all! http://www.emi-inc.net/bridgeport/ If all else fails, give them a call.
  3. Scott - In the good old days we had 286 and 386, maybe 486 PCs to communicate to our CNC controls. Now we have new Pentiums with GHZ speed and scratch our heads on why things are not the same. Most likely what you will see is a "buffer overflow" when sending to these machines from fast computers which can be resolved by adding a line delay. This will keep them "talking" on the same level. Check the FIFO on the communication port as well to adjust for the buffering. We recommend you disable this on the computer. If you still get stuck, give us a call - we will be more than happy to provide you with more information to get you up and running.
  4. Getting junk on the PC is a good sign! This means your cable is most likely built correctly as well as your PC port is alive. We do have some documentation on this control with settings and PC configuration. You are welcome to call us and we can provide you with what we have.
  5. Charles - The Allen Bradley 9 series does not require any special software when using the RS232 port. We have complete documentation on this controller and more than willing to help you out. As always when dealing with RS232 communicationsm, begin by sending from the CNC controller back to the PC. The PC will be "forgiving" if you have the settings (ie. data, stop, or parity) wrong. Then take the same program and send it back into the control. We also have the Predator Grizzly Cables that will make the wiring a snap. No soldiering or crimping required.
