A fellow here in the office swears up and down that at his previous shop when he was verifying a lathe boring bar it showed up as round.
Personally I dont believe I have ever seen this. Far as I recall they always come out as a 2D rectangularish shape...
What does everyone else have? Or better yet, can a boring bar be set to verify as a round bar?
Tks!

This is what I have near the top of my fanuc based posts. If you have this switch, just set it to 'no$' and see how that works for ya.
code:css_start_rpm : no$ #Do direct RPM spindle start prior to CSS ?

I am trying setup in my machine def. a solid model of my chuck. So, I select 'chuck properties' then select Solid from the drop down and it kicks me to a blank screen, on level 1. From there I am not completely sure what to do.
I have already got a complete solid of my chuck drawn on level 5000...but am not sure how to get that info from there to the blank level 1 it moves me to when I select lathe chuck solid.
Any one have any ideas?

I was thankful that the shop I was with (a few years back) bought v9 a month before X premiered so I didnt have to linger or form lots of V9 habits that I have seen so many people talk about since...
From what little I had on V9 and then went X, I loved X.
As far as how to transition? There was a fellow at my current work who refused to use X2 and still have V9 on his computer here. Said he just didnt understand X and wasnt willing to put the effort in (he is 47 now). He went on holidays and had IT remove V9 from his computer. He was quite upset when he came back, but a few months later he thanked me cause he could see the benefits and ease of going into X instead of V9....All be it, all he did was draw bolt circles! lol
Stick it out. It gets better, and easier.

We had this problem with our Cimco for a while, although not thru Mastercam. We have Cimco Edit Pro v5. and NC Base. Our NC base server is on one computer in the office and when we had the last programmer who used the computer, Cimco always took long to load.
Since we replaced that fellow it loads nearly instantly. Although I am not sure why it would have an impact on what user name is being called on the server computer, it does seem to have made a big difference.

Ron! Are you still dreaming?

I am with Ron, as we have an e-series Integrex as well and program ONLY in EIA. This is an example of my code for this machine...not sure how it translates to the Nexus lathes tho... (bear in mind I have a B axis and Y axis on my machine)

Sorry, but why would you need the center points? Personally I hate them... Why wouldnt you just select either Mask on Arc and use that or use entity selection if you have a variety of sizes?

Hey all,
Did some searching and didnt find what I was looking for, so wondered if I could get some assistance.
I am wanting to set up a VTL Machine Def for an old beater VTL we got. I am not too sure how to properly set up the axis so that I can come out with the correct prespective on the machine.
Any help would be awesome!

I am begining to feel like your tagline applies to me, Kccad. Why? Cause I dont follow.
If I take the example of that chamfer mill I listed in the first part of this post, I assume that I am just suppose to xform scale this...but it's to what I dont understand.
Mchin, u just have me royally more confused with your post.

Kccadcam,
Just to make something certain, for my end anyways... I am guessing those are saved in an X3 format?
The computer I have here with X3 is out at the machine and the machine is being serviced so sadly I cannot open them. Can you re-do T103 for X2 style? One example should be good enough I would think.
Thanks!

Gcode, the reason the generic version of Mastercam's chamfer tool doesnt work for me is because I am using the tool to do and ID undercut for a thread relief. As such, Mastercam puts the chamfer on the front of the tool and then make the rest of the chamfer body in line with the largest diameter, obviously wiping out the front of my bore (visually only).
Kccadcam, thanks! I will take a look at this.

Hey all,
I drew a custom chamfer mill because MC doesnt display properly with their generic version.
Very simple chamfer tool. 1" at the bottom, 1.75" at the largest diameter. When I go to back plot with this tool it displays ALOT smaller then I drew it. It does the same in verify.
Now if I post the code for that tool (doing a circle mill path) it posts out correctly according to the diameter. But, I would like to be able to SEE it 'cutting' at the right diameter in MC.
Is this a common problem? I know I could fix it by making it an Undefined tool, but I use this tool alot and dont want to do that....Whats the deal?!?

Fair enough. Thanks John

Noob Question;
Why is it that I have a pdrlcst$ in my post and a pdrlcst2$? I know what they represent and have done many edits in pdrlcst$, but what good does the pdrlcst2$ do in comparision?

I am not to sure about Haas atm, cause I havent worked on one in a few years, but on my Mazak we have more letter combinations on the G83/73 cycles that can allow you to change this kind of thing. I am wondering if the Haas have the same? My typical is G83 Z R Q F, but can T D J I K to do other stuff to the G83 (such as what you are looking for).
Check your haas book maybe you have something similar.

NM, I figured it out. Had to track down which tools were giving me the Lower Turret error and replace those tools with 'new' (the same) tool from the library and it solved the issue.
Very strange! Hope you enjoyed the read tho.

I programmed something up with my Integrex post. Seems when I was going thru the Properties - Tool Settings tab in the TP Manager and inadvertantly click the 'Assign Tool Numbers Sequentially' checkbox.
So, to fix said stupidity after going thru 85 operations and changing the tool numbers back to what they are suppose to be (I used the Tool Manager to change the numbers) I go to repost.
I now get numerous errors. Similar tools that arent similar sharing a different number? I get the warning that is the subject of this thread. And as such it will now no longer post out anything beyond the tooltable..and not even the entire tooltable.
What gives?!?! I really dont want to start this one over again. So any help would be great.
Tks!

I ended up making my own setup sheet in Excel with pictures, tool lists, probe cycle information and more for just this reason... The Mastercam ones suck and dont output Lathe and Mill.
Maybe In-House's html setup sheet works the way you want it to? Never tried it myself...

quote:Also can we get the ability in Lathe to turn off the multiply work offsets error like we do in mill.
Since we got our Integrex, I am totally with you Ron. This error is stupid and should have a switch to turn it off. I personally use (typically) G54 for my main and G55 for my sub and get that error all over the place. /sigh

G, That much I understand, and that was what I was meaning when I said that they were sometimes there and sometimes not. I was reloading my machine def and then rechecking the files page to see if there was a change...and there usually was.
Ray, I went into that and checked it out and here are the two problems that I see/encountered.
1. The default ops is a local file. Will that op not still be local because I am going thru that? Or is it that by going thru that I am 'hard coding' that MD/CD to read only what I select?
2. Went into the !, up to the files tab but when I open that up, everything is greyed out. How do I access those from in there?
Thanks for the help thus far!

Hey All,
I have been using alot of files such as tool librarys, default ops and the ops library on a network drive.
I set them up thru the Machine Def and control def in the appropriate spots, saved and reload. If I click on the Machine Group Properties/Files tab (in the TP Manager). Sometimes it lists the right files, sometimes it doesnt. I can check it, and it's all good, then exit, check again and its not. And I am not sure why.
Any help getting them locked down would be much appreciated.
Offset Milled Holes
in Industrial Forum
Posted
Hey all,
Been a while since I have done this and its not working out quite rite, so bear with me.
I have a hole on the OD of a part that is offset to the diameter. This hole is to be drilled (horizontal machine), but when I setup the origin on the hole and post out it gives me X0 Y0 B38. But the hole is not on center. If I open open the view manager it says X4.5 Y2.5. Those are the numbers I want posted out.
So in that, I have unselected 'associative' and still get X0 Y0... Either I cant remember how to do this, or somethign else is goofy.
Any thots would be great!
