  1. Awesome machines. We have tree of them here in landing gear production. Fully equipped, probing, steady rests, several turrets.... by 2.000.000,00 euros each. Simens 840D is a very suitable control for this machine, but the possibilities allowed by these machines are proportional to its programming complexity. Siemens is a beast as well, and due to the fact that we use huge forgings as stock, probing routines are widely used in our setups and programs, but unfortunately, some of these routines are home-made, (actually most of them), and they are not really simple to be programmed in these beasts. But the machine constructions is awesome, great support, etc. The post was wrote in C+ by a guru in Munich, Germany, and Vericut still being tweaked to simulate all its features. The worse thing in programming it besides probing macros is the syncro stuff...

But no doubt that is one of the best Millturns in the world, if not the best one....

  2. Hi folks!

Long time since my last post....

Well, I have a weird ask, but who knows some of you can help me out on this matter...

I´m having some troubles with our existing NFS server solution, (It does not support more than 35 NFS exports steadfastly) so I´m looking to evaluate a new one, and if I get the job done, we will purchase it.

I found this solution after a quick google search:

    Xlink NFS Server

The problem is that is a bit cumbersome to configure FTP here, (The administrators allow it but requires tweaks in the ISA server) and I´m in a hurry to solve this today, because our machines depends of these exports to work properly with the DNC (Cimco - Network monitor)

Could someone download the file for the Omni FTP and send it to me:

daniel (dot) santos (at) liebherr (dot) com

    ftp://ftp.xlink.com/pub/xlink_demo/nfserver.exe

It´s a safe link. I just can´t download it by myself at this moment.

    Thanks in advance.

  3. I believe that the most reliable tool to measure machine geometric errors with precision and efficacy is a Ballbar device. This tool is able to inform you where, how big and how to fix these kind of erros.

  4. Hi folks!!!

The company which I´m working now has been passed the last one year to decide which CAM system we will use. After several evaluations, Mastercam, UG and PRO/NC are being considered. Our engineering and NC programming dept., established in Germany uses PRO/E for both design and manufacturing. Our branch has less demands, because we do not intend to have engineering here, at least not soon, so, a good CAM system for valve and structural parts is the most important thing now. The designs are totally made at PRO/E suite, and they have a lot of design changes in some parts. Does the new feature of X2 - change recognition, works with PRO/E surface/solid models? Can we be informed by Mastercam about the design changes in such geometries (solids/surfaces) and update only the geometries that were changed, keeping the associativity of the toolpaths which did not have suffered changes in its geometries?

  5. Check the latest version of parasolid supported by Esprit and export the file for this version. Use the options button, as stated above. Parasolid is a safe and efficient CAD format, surely you should not have further problems if both systems are talking in supported versions.

If you are not sure which version of parasolid kernel your Esprit copy is, I believe that somewhere in Esprit installation folder should exist a dll file called pskernel.dll. Find it, and then, select it, push the right click button and go to the last option - Properties -> Version Tab - Surely you gonna find which version of parasolid kernel you are using with Esprit.

  6. Hi everyone!

I would like to enjoy the place to really say thanks for Cimco Integration customer care. cheers.gif

Is a huge please came here to say that. In the past 4 months Cimco fixed, developed and delivered to our shop dozens of fixes and improvements, allowing us to extract all the DNC potencial in our CNC controls. I´m proud to say that our CNC/DNC configuration is very particular: Millplus controls connected via Ethernet to a DNC system doing remote requests and all the relevant procedures under TCPIP/NFS protocols. The settings/manner defined by us and Cimco under which the system is running are IMHO amazing. Tom Mortensen and Cristian Jacobsen were very kind with me accepting, supporting and driving us to the right way.

100% of my bug fixes requests were answered, in a very short response time, and 90% of my enhancement requests as well. Looks like obvius for some people that companies must have this kind of relationship with the customers, but I believe that a lot of people here knows that the reality sometimes is different. Some big companies simply don´t give a $hit if their customers are pleased or not, or just comunicate you that maybe within 6 months a patch will be available.

Cimco has showing us that is possible to have a real total and fully configurable DNC system to meet your demands exactly as you imagine. The flexibility of the system is really amazing. There are settings there to cover almost all NC management philosophies. NC-BASE and DNC-MAX are awesome products, allowing automatic Backuping and a lot of real useful solutions. Please don´t take me bad thinking that I´m promoting and doing unecessary advertising here, but I have to say thank you so much to them, and to be fair as they deserve, in a "public place".

In short, this is a sincer testimonial for those ones that are considering buy a decent DNC system. Cimco solution, support and customer care really rocks!!!

cheers.gifcheers.gif Thanks for all Cimco staff!!! cheers.gif

  7. Hi folks!

We are having a CAM becnhmark (Mastercam is participating cheers.gif !!!) here and part of the test to mill a M25x1.5 thread with a carbide thread mill (Diameter 12 Pitch 1.5mm as in the picture below). The programmers are asking me how many active teeths have this tool, and I don´t know which answer should I give them.

The depth of the hole of thread is 20mm, they must start on the bottom and mill the thread from bottom to top (right-hand thread)

My question: Can I define the number of active teeths as 1 and define only the pitch or I have to put the number of active teeths?

Thanks a million, and please, if possible, reply this message as soon as possible because they are waiting for an answer..... smile.gifsmile.gifsmile.gif

  8. Hi Ron!

To be honest my biggest concerns are the creation of assembly drawings, stock management, and if possible, integration with our ERP system. Pictures and bar code are not so important for us, but I´l call to the guys of Iscar and TDM to explain me their capabilities, and of course, the benefits of each system.

    Obrigado Ron, abraços a família,

  9. Bruce, you are right. Around 70% of our carbide tools are suplied by Iscar. To be honest I have discussed about this subject with one of theirs representatives and he told me that Iscar has a tool management software, but he was not clear enought about its capabilities.

I´ll give a call them tomorrow.

If someone else has something to add, please feel yourself free. This will be a long journey for me.

    Thanks again,

  10. Hi folks,

I haven´t not posting here for a couple of months, but still "Watching".... We are really trying to build an aerospace company here, so, it takes a lot of time. In the past 2 months I was implementing Cimco suite, with a lot of not usual settings (NFS with remote requests on Millplus), so, was a big challenge, but fortunately, is working fine now. The Cimco support made the all difference. cheers.gif (For Tom, Kristian, Peter, Arn and all the Cimco DK staff) cheers.gif

Weel, I have a new challenge now: To choose a good tool management system for our company. In our headquarters in Germany they have one, but is too old and cumbersome. Any insights about these systems? Is there some of you using them with sucess? I took a superficial look on TDM4, on Internet, and it looks great. I have noticed also that Predator has some tools for this market also? Any experience or advices about these systems?

    Any insight will very appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,

    I only have PDF's for 15, 16, 18, and 21's.

James, I´m participant also from a CNC forum in portuguese, here in Brazil, and a guy asked us about which parameter he has to change to modify the behavior of G94/G95 on status screen. He is using a Fanuc 21I control. I would like to help him on this. Could you send me a copy of 21 I PDF manual, please?

    Thanks in advance...

Ideally many would like to run Mastercam with on board graphics cards because they are cheap. Would it be Mastercams fault that it did not work well with onboard graphics?

Of course not. The another CAM developers has the same problems with low-end graphic cards. But in the most of times they mention clearly this on software documentation, as well as the supported and certified hardware.
