Last  .IGES files      I guess files notoriously bad for use as transfer files

Great how things evolved in the past 20 years... When I started IGES was cutting edge exchange format even being almost 20 years old at the time. Mitutoyo Cosmos Software liked the VDA format.

  2. Thanks Jay,

God knows how much I love these products and how much better they made us... I've implemented them in all my employers in the past decade. All together I'm talking about nearly a hundred licenses. My current company licenses 43 seats of the editor and close to that in NC-base and DNC Max clients, this site alone. I think the volume speaks for itself and helps to explain why we do expect more. I have even exported this solution to plants overseas in the past.

I just think the Editor and NC-Base are a little behind in their priorities, whereas the lack of more advanced tools in Edit Pro is my biggest grip.

NCPlot delivers more as an NC Editor and I feel uncomfortable to be in the group of the handicapped.

NCPlot lacks data management and DNC as Cimco does, so in the end the overall suite is what makes Edit Pro so appealing when used with other Cimco products.

The most sold not necessarily means the best and Cimco needs to put more focus in the editor and level it against their competitors.

I appreciate the feedback and trust you with all my heart, but we have to remember that more than words what really counts in the end are the release notes....

    Thank you again,

    Daniel

  3. Has anyone using Professional Editor and other Cimco modules noticed the slow down in development?

Most of the resources are being put on the MDC-Max and little in the Editor, NC-Base, DNC-Max... I know they're mature products but hey...

I was used to see at least bi-weekly updates but the last year the drop was dramatic. Wait for a month to see a single fix in MDC-Max reports?

I like the products and I'm happy with the support, but I think they've lost their hand with products like Editor Professional or NC-Base. They are almost 100% on the sales only mode for these products...

Maybe a shortage in the workforce? Not even the promised for January machine simulation happened so far...

I remember the golden times when the guys that moved to Autodesk where there... little bureaucracy and fast paced development... they're closer to us, customers... now even bugs fixes are taking a year to get into the product... used to take a week or less 5 years ago...

I know that it's not an easy job but to see NC-Plot to outperform CIMCO Edit Pro in several fronts for so many years is indeed a waste of potential...

I've done everything in my power to let them know the gaps but it's been falling on deaf years for quite sometime...

Anyone else noticed the slow down?

Parallel will do just fine here. I used Model Prep to get rid of the holes. I then just used a 6mm ball endmill in a ER-16 sticking out 20mm. Pick the lower edge as the curve. Then pick the surface. No collision avoidance or Control lines needed.

Here is Video of the motion.

    2018 Parallel

Here is the 2018 file. Sorry either that or 2017 so I used the latest Software.

    2018 Chamfer with Ball Endmill

I also used the extend parameters to have it cut past on the start, end top and bottom.

Here is the Machine sim Video.

    2018 Machine Sim Video

I love to see how you make these 5 axis machines to dance your song Ron...

That toolpath is probably the best possible way to multi axis that feature... Anyone else noticed how the machine X axis moves as minimum as possible?

It's a privilege to see you in action Sir!

  5. Not sure if I got this right but if you graphic card do not support the full resolution of your monitor, there´s nothing CIMCO can do about it.

AFAIK... The application adapts itself to what the O/S | Driver allows it to...

  6. CIMCO DNC-Max with NC-Base can track the time a program was remotely requested and saved back to the DNC in the program history time-line.

Even without NC-Base, DNC-Max alone can also send events to an Excel spreadsheet if your program contains DPRINT like commands in specific positions, like close to a M30.

You can also measure the start time end time using the control internal tracking. BTW, what control?

I set this up at a customer a few years ago. For the pilot project we used Cimco NC-Base(Already owned) on a windows tablet, and also setup shortcuts for there ERP, Drawings library, company documents.

Worked well, but after crunching costs it didn't make sense at the time to go with tablets for limited power, function and screen size. In the end we went with a few all in one PC's strategically placed around the shop.

If I was to do it again today, i would look at doing thin clients or having access via mobile friendly web client.

CIMCO MDM now supports a web client.

  8. It's apparently being caused by a lack of a specific string in the dll storing the localization.

But this seems to be the side effect, as the root cause seems to be that an error was found and when the toolkit tried to call the exception message, that is, the error message, it's wasn't found either.

Probably a new release of ModuleWorks where the developers forgot to add the string in the localization dll.

Nice link. Helps to clarify the amount of cross pollination that happens in the background between CAM systems. Hopefully the post will be updated to reflect how things have progressed since 2011.

    Eric

Honestly, it's business as usual ever since... But one thing the post mentions in its conclusions and that indeed got more attention from CAM suppliers was stock updates. After the post (And not due to it) Mastercam, Edgecam and other CAM vendors implemented this and the technology is still maturing but the times where excessive air cuts were the rule in this game are now part of the past thanks to stock update technology, this summed up with better toolpath algorithms like Opti Rough.

  10. Yes to the above but the backplotter also assumes that the value of the toolpath coordinates are plotted in a 1:1 ratio, that is, if your code is in inches, it will plot 1 as 1 regardless the unit. If memory serves me, the units in the settings  are for time calculations.

Didn't they try to sell it to CNC Software at the beginning? CNC Software wasn't interested, and that was the beginning of Module Works....I think, lol

Had they bought it in the early offers, maybe they would not have paved the path for a bunch of competitors in many fronts. Look at the Quantum Leap in terms of quality and functionality guys like BobCam had, thanks to 3rd party component technology. They could never built all that stuff in house. They are just one example among dozens.

What´s written is written, and ModuleWorks could exist one way or another as there is a strong will to excel behind them...

But we never know... I´m glad it turned out to be what it is... ModuleWorks along with MachineWorks make CAM technology better, faster, more reliable and reachable. If they did not exist maybe much of what we take for granted today wouldn´t be around.

I always say ModuleWorks started with toolpaths and later with simulation and other components. They can beat MachineWorks hands down on this front. MachineWorks can also provide some toolpath engines, but not even close to what ModuleWorks can do. MachineWorks is very strong in the simulation and mesh manipulation though. Their Polygonica product was born as a spin-off from their simulation expertise, and also to expand their income sources as they could not survive to ModuleWorks as a whole with only simulation products.

ANY INSIGHT ON WHY MY BASIC POST AND THE FUNCTION 5 AXIS DRILLING DOES NOT POST OUT CORRECT? IM USING GENERIC HAAS VF-TR_SERIES 5X MILL. WRONG X,Y,A, AND B'S. IM PROGRAMMING OFF C/L ROTATION. IM 100% SELF TAUGHT LAST 5 YEARS.

LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU GUYS THINK I CAN SEND YOU MY FILE.

I think more people would show up with ideas if they could hear you... CAPS is considered yelling on Internet forums...
