  1. Hi everyone, Im using X2 MR1 for wire. The problem I am having is when I'm creating a tool path, the "cutting parameters" page drop down menu for selecting how you want the tab to be cut wont drop down! I have multiple chains with tabs, the only requirement that I know of for having this menu activate. This is the first time I have used this menu since I have updated to MR1 so maybe I am doing something wrong, or is it Mastercam?? Any other wire guys experience this? Thanks! Wire Mike
  2. Wow! First time I have been able to access the FTP site in the last year! Thanks!!!
  3. Thanks Del! That did it. I never would have figured that out! I don't remember having to do that in previous versions. Thanks a lot, one less headache to deal with. How do you like the new format for wire Del? Anything really different, or just a new look?? Mike
  4. Hi Everyone. I just installed X2 MR1 and I am having a problem when using my Wire/Power page in properties. It seems I cant get MC to read the library I have set as the default. It shows the correct library in the grayed out window and I have to click on "associate to library". Then it asks if I want to save settings. I tell it "no" because it will save the incorrect MC default library as my custom library. Only after I do this will it bring up my correct library. No matter what I do when I open a new MC it wont use the library I have set as the default unless I go through the process I just described. Not sure if Im doing something wrong..or its a glitch. The properties pages are set up totally different in wire in this release then the previous one so I dont know if that has anything to do with it. Any Ideas? Thanks, Mike
  5. In EDM circles Esprit is to wire as MC is to Milling. I have used both. Somethings work better in Esprit then MC and vise versa. Esprit tends to be more customized for individual machines while MC is more generic...at least for Charmilles. Also support can be tough for MC wire because a lot of resellers don't have much experience in wire. Or as in our case none. Great benefit of Mastercam was that it was easy to transition to progamming cnc milling machines and make myself more versatile.
  6. hmmmmm I'm running windows 2000. Im going to have do my programming with MR2 till I can figure out whats going on. Thanks for you help, Mike
  7. Hi all, In the last 2 days I have had 3 files that wont open with Mastercam X2 after I save them, exit mastercam and then try to open them again. At first I thought the first 2 were due to me transfering a dxf file from another program into Mastercam, and that for some reason MX2 didnt like it, but this last time it was a virgin mastercam file. When I try open them I get a "mastercam.exe generated errors" message. I tried opening them with MCx mr2 but I get a "corrupt file" message there. I also tried it with another computer in the shop and I get the same result. Im using x2 for wire by the way. Any Ideas??? Thanks, Mike
  8. Thanks for the help David! Much appreciated. Mike
  9. Hello all, I was wondering if there is a way of setting a default color for creating dimension's so it is a diffrent color than the drafting color.(besides changing the "system color" on the lower toolbar.) Thanks! Mike
  10. We switched for cost savings, and also so I was not the odd ball in the shop not using mastercam. We run a Charmilles here and Esprit has more of the Charmilles options intergrated into its platform, but I have also found some things in Mastercam that I like better then Esprit. The toughest part of our transition was that our resller has very little experience with wire machines and it took months to get a post from them that worked. Overall I would say if switching to Mastercam will save you money it is worth it.
  11. Just my 2 cents about switching to MC for wire. If you need your reseller to help you with a post for your machine,(or to provide you one as ours was) make sure they have wire experience. I will not get into details, but it can be a very time and money wasting ordeal otherwise.
  12. After I switched to X, my backplots looked fine, but when I posted, mastercam was switching my part height with my "I" dimension used for tapers. In fact it would only post my "H" as zero. My reseller has worked on this for me, but so far they my "h" posting correctly, but now my "I" posts zero. They told me CNC thinks its bug in the control definition. I found this out with just doing a simple 2D part with a set taper, have not tried with a 4 axis program. Again, the backplot looks good, so it can be decieving.
  13. Hello, I was wondering if there is a setting in Wire X to make it output wire protection strategy codes for a Charmilles Millennium Control. There is a box to check off in Esprit, but cant seem to find this option in Wire X. Thanks, Mike
