I can't do either of those. I'll have to have our tech guy do that when I can, I don't have access to them. I checked permissions on the server, and my immediate supervisor is on there. I emailed a X2 file to him, and he get's the same error when trying to save. He still uses mostly Ver 9.1 still and has no problem saving anything to the same folder. We have 3 computers with X2. I use X2 exclusively, the guy next to me does about 50/50 ver9/ X2, and my boss uses 99% ver.9. I tried saving the file as a .mc9 and emailed it to one of the ver9 comps, opened it in ver9, and tried to save it to the same folder, with no luck. Our IT guy is a bit unreliable, but I'll have him try your suggestions when I can get a hold of him

Hi folks, I'm having a problem saving my X2 files to our server. I get message, "Error writing database to disk". I can save the files to my hard drive ok. I can save my .NC files, text files to the same server fine, just the X2 files I can't. I did a search on the forums and tuirned 2 hits, but no solutions. Any ideas? Thanks, Chappyd

Hi, I have a kinda noob question about cutter comp. I made a program using surfaces for the 1st time, and it looks pretty good. Except when I post it out, I do not know how to compensate for odd tool sizes. There's no G41, and that's about the limit of my experience with cutter comp. When I make a 2-d mill program, I have always selected "wear" in the cutter comp type window. Here in our shop we do that and allow the operator to adjust the part size using positive or negative values, and the program always posts a G41 and Dxx. Using the surface toolpath options, my only comp options are tip, & center. Could anyone enlighten me or point me to a source where I could educate myself on how to use this so the operator will be able to change values for resharpened tools? Thanks Chappyd

I ended up removing X2 completely, and deleting the folder as well. All is working now, but I had to reset my configuration. It's already saved elsewhere I also had problems with the side by side install, and ended up getting rid of X2 mr1. Just using MR2 now

Thanks John. Did the uninstall, and rebooted. Still get the same error. I'll try renaming the cfg files again and see what happens. If that doesn't work I may try repair, then uninstall and reinstall x2

I treid renaming both cofig files, mcamx.cfg, and mcamxm.cfg. Both times X2 created new files, but still failed to start with the same exception screen, just like first thing this am. Where do I find the latest update to uninstall? There's nothing in the add/remove programs, and I don't want to uninstall something I shouldn't

Nope, That doesn't work either. I also reinstalled Microsoft C++2005, and direct X. I did send the files out when given the option.

Basically yes, the geometry would not rotate, however I was able to exit the program normally. The computer itself seemed fine. I will take Matt's advice and disable the preview. This morning I uninstalled all versions of Mastercam I had on my comp and reinstalled X2 MR2 only. I had X2 MR1 and V9 still as well. If I can reproduce this problem consistently I will send what info I have to the QC addy. We are using XP pro as an OS. Thanks for your suggestions, I appreciate them Dave

Update. This same "disappearing" happened again near the end of the day. This time, i was not merging files, but working on some geometry. While attempting to Xform Rotate, X2 did not respond to the rotate command. I then saved my file and exited the program, as often told in classes at our reseller, Macdac Engineering. I reopened X2, browsed to my file, highlighted it, saw it in the preview window, hit the green check to open ..............and nothing. blank screen. We've been using X2 MR1 until a couple of weeks ago. We updated to X2 MR2 in a "side by side" installation as advised by Macdac. The 2 months or so of MR1 were uneventful, so I may just uninstall both X2's and just reinstall MR1 again. This is just way too frustrating. Chappyd

Pete, this has happened twice to me in the last couple of days. I am in a folder with a list of X2 files to choose from. When I highlight the file I want, I can see the geometry in the preview area. However, when I go to open it, X2 opens with a blank screen. I agree, there must be nothing in the file, since when I open it, nothing happens. 2 questions remain however.......... Why can I see the geometry which no longer exsists in the preview window? And.......... In both cases these were saved files, opened with no trouble previously. Something happened when I tried to merge the files. What happened? The merge function appears to be working properly now. I have no idea what I did, but I cannot afford to have work "disappear", and have resorted to saving files in 2 locations. If anyone has had something similiar happen, or can hazard a guess as to what I may have done to cause this, I'd love to hear it. Thanks, Chappyd

Hi All, new to the forums. We're using X2 MR2 now, having upgraded from v9 this year. When I try to merge a file, I get a new ribbon bar with a bunch of choices. No matter what I do, I can't get the file I want to merge to appear. Then I went back to reopen the file on it's own, and I get nothing. In the preview window I can see my geometry, but when I go to open it, I get a blank screen. How do I merge stuff, and how do I get my geomtry back!! In v9, the file would just merge. That's all I want at this point.
