  1. Thanks RayD, that link was helpful I will check to see if everything is configured properly, I did notice that the machine has MAPPS, I checked out the other link you sent me and im really interested in exploring the MAPPS option I think thats the the answer.

  2. Hi Newbie,

Thats the procedure I always use for Fanucs, I post out all my tool pathes (subs) into Cimco editor, write main program theres a % sign at the beginning and end and then I save everything under a file name.

When I send the file to the control it reads the first "O" that it comes to and thats all it will take, Im not sure if its the DNC software or the control, the control looks like its pretty old.

Ive used the procedures below for years but its not working for the Mori.

For external subs I give the main and subs an "O" name and use M98 send the file to the control and when you go to the program list in the control there all listed seperately (external).

for internal subs I give the main "O" name and for the subs I use a "N" instead of a "O" and a M97 in the main, send the file to control and when go to the program list in the control theres one program with all the subs and the main (internal) in both formats theres a % sign at the beginning and the end.

  3. Im trying to learn all the options for sending sub programs to a Mori-Seiki Dura center 5 (vertical mill), are control is hard wired to a PC, theres no floppy drive or flash drive.

Right now the procedure is to:

    1) get the control ready to recieve

    2) walk across the shop to the PC, open the sub program in are DNC software and hit send.

    3) walk back to the machine get the control ready to recieve

    4) walk back to the PC, open the next sub program in the DNC software and hit send

If you have 12 subs, you have to repeat the process 12 times (CRAZY) other brands that Ive used have several options for sending sub programs.

    ex.

    internal subs:

    G54

    M97 P1001

    M97 P1002

    M30

    N1001

    G0 G90 X.5 Y.5 M3 S1000

    G1 X10.

    M99

    N1002

    G0 G90 X.5 Y.5 M3 S1000

    G1 X10.

    M99

    external subs:

    G54

    M98 P1001

    M98 P1002

    M30

    O1001

    G0 G90 X.5 Y.5 M3 S1000

    G1 X10.

    M99

    O1002

    G0 G90 X.5 Y.5 M3 S1000

    G1 X10.

    M99

I would like to use both internal and external options, the Mori-Seiki will not read the M97, it gives me a alarm, M97 is already used as a macro in the control.

With other machines there are so many options for sending programs, you can take all the subs put them in a folder and send the folder to the machine!

    any help would be appreciated

  4. I had the same problem and working with my reseller, this is what he found:

    G:\,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,this worked

    G:\manufacting,,,,,,,,,,,,this worked

    G:\manufacting\cadfiles,,,this did not work!!!

He didnt know why it didnt work,so he reported it to CNC Software.

The version I was using was a download from the Mastercam website,I uninstalled the web download and reinstalled using the DVD and now it works fine.

  5. Find this section in your post...

    ptlchg #Tool change
     	pcuttype
     	toolchng = one
     	if mi1 = one, #Work coordinate system
       	[
       	pfbld, n, *sg28ref, "X0.", "Y0.", e
       	pfbld, n, "G92", *xh, *yh, *zh, e
       	]
     	pbld, n, "M01", e

     	pbld, n, *t, "M6", e

Right after the last line I have shown, try adding this...(indent it so it lines up with all the other lines)

    pbld, "M01", e$

Always back up your post before editing!!!

    Thanks Keith,

    That worked well :)

  6. I have this in all of my posts just before each tool change. Simple post edit. Since it is optional, there is no harm in it being there.

I’m not to good at editing post, I use the trial and error method its time consuming and frustrating.

  7. Open the Operation, Tool Parameter page - Canned Text - Pick OpStop ans insert it - Before, With, or After the operation.

    Mike Mattera

    Thanks Mike,

That was the procedure I was using, but I was hoping for something more permanent, but that works.

    thanks

    John

  8. No I was in AUTO not MDI and it keeps giving me that alarm 3218,any other machine tool that I have used its a matter of a couple of key strokes to get the control ready to recieve a program, and when its ready to recieve a program it lets you know with some sort of acknowledgment like EXCUTE or READY

  9. I was thinking the same thing, but that had no effect,I did figure one thing out,my start procedure was wrong for protocol "A" I was supposed to:

    DNC communication "ON"

    turn on power supply

    sellect "AUTO"

    place buffer operation to "ON"

press "CYCLE START" (program select not necessary)

    now I get alarm 3218

alarm C DNC start condition 1

the CNC is not in the normal state when communicating using protocol "A"

  10. Jeff,I believe its a variation of drip feed,Okuma calls it DNC-B, its a expensive option we purchased because we wanted to run bigger file sizes,Im using the Okuma special functions manual and it says to:

1)connect laptop to machine via RS-232

2)place the DNC communication switch to "on"

    3)power up the Okuma

    4)select auto key

5)place the buffer switch to "on"

6)press main program (F1)main program window appears.

Iam supposed to press (F1)again main program sellect but it grayed out (not a option) so thats as far as I can go!!!! banghead.gif

  11. Here's my parameters:

    Cimco edit5: port-com1

    stop bits-2

    baud rate-4800

    data bits-7

    parity-eve

    flow control-software

    Laptop,device settings,port settings:

    bits per sec-4800

    data bits-7

    parity-even

    stop bits-2

    flow control-xon/xoff

    Okuma:

    A1 protocol-A

    A2 communcation devise-CHA:

    A3 baud rate-4800

    A4 rs232 stop bits-2

    A5 parity-even

    A6 transmit code-ASCII

    A7 message code-ETX

    A8 NC prgram-YES

    B1 sets tape code-ISO

    B2 carries out tape-NO

    B3 new line-CRLF

    B4 one block-0

    B7 program data-0

  12. I tried restarting the machine with both switches set to "on" and that didnt work, the cable is brand new just had it made by my Mastercam reseller,I assume they know what there doing.

we dont have this machine hard wired,we send and recieve programs from the floppy drive,so this is new to us,Im tring to DNC from laptop,I dont if its the laptop or the cable or the machine!!! frown.gif

  13. I just got off the phone with a company called Sharper Solutions which sells Cimco products and he told me that the Cimco editor will DNC to Fanuc controls, but the Okuma I need to step up to Cimco DNC-max which has the right protocals and hand shaking,Im going to download a trial version of that and give it a try!

  14. Here's my procedure:

1)connect laptop to machine via RS-232

2)place the DNC communication switch to "on"

    3)power up the Okuma

    4)select auto key

5)place the buffer switch to "on"

6)press main program (F1)main program window appears.

Then I am supposed to press the program select key again (F1) to get the main program (DNC-B) pop-up window to key in the program name.

How ever the program select key is grayed out which leads me to believe the laptop and machine are not communicating.

  15. We have a Okuma mill with a OSP-E100 control and we purchased the DNC-B option,Im tring to drip feed using Cimco Editor that comes with Mastercam but cant get the laptop to communicate with the machine, does anybody have the parameter settings needed to make this work,I cant believe I need to purchase special software to make this work, Ive searched all over the forum and theres people using Cimco but thats all I can find, any help would be greatly appreciated.

  16. Yes Ive already tried turning of clearance and using retract only and that seams to be the best

alternative, and not a good one, but it sure seams like you should be able to to use clearance with that box checked! it works great for drilling but not anything else, maybe that box should be omitted or grayed out from all the parameter pages except drilling so we dont waste time tring to get it to work!!!
