  1. Woodwork Forum seems dead so I've posted here hoping to get some feedback. We own Router Level 1 no solids. We design in SW and export .dxf to X4. We are evaluating solids nesting/routing software that runs inside SW. We are also trying to evaluate the options available to us if we stick with Mastercam. We want to be able to nest the solid entities from SW. Will ATP help with this? Mastercam for Solidworks?... What's your advice? Peter.
  2. I've only just started using Toolpath Nesting. I've always nested geometry. However I have the opposite problem to what MotorCityMinion says. I have Transform/mirrored a toolpath with chained entities and drilling, simulates fine, then nested the original and mirrored toolpaths. The drilling ops from the mirrored part are dropped from the selected operations cluster and only simulate in the nesting operation not the nesting result. Any ideas? Pete.

  4. Just updated my X3 3axis Router post to X4 but have problems with the output. Specifically no feed speeds and G50 on the first and last rapid positioning line. Those are just what I can see at first glance. If someone can provide some pointers for me I'd have a go at fixing it. But any assistance with this will be gratefully accepted.
  5. "you leased the rights to use it and you do not have the rights to transfer the lease." ----------------------------------------------- Doesn't this apply to most software packages today? Solidworks is the same as far as we can tell. It's hard to accept from an owners point of view but nobody focuses on this detail when they're trying to justify buying the thing in the first place. That would imply either the product has limited long term value, or you don't expect to be in business long term and are interested in re-sale value.
  6. OK...Thanks. Any time frame for a fix? ...'cause it's really annoying. Pete.
  7. Never got a code when we went to X3 from V9.
  8. Installed X4 today. Now when I open Geometry Nesting I first get the warning about Prototype functions and an access code request. How do I turn this off. It doesn't inhibit the use of the nesting dialogue but it's annoying. I only got this in X3 if I tried using the beta/prototype functions while in nesting but now it happens when I initialize nesting. Pete.
  9. Hit "apply" before hitting "ok" maybe.
  10. Sorry I meant do you use Toolpath nesting?
  11. Hi Tom, I use Manual Tab placement almost exclusively. Do you use nesting? Peter.
  12. Saw the SolidNest software today. That seems pretty good for nesting. But I'm not sure how much control it gives you over toolpaths. Pete.
  13. Is anyone aware of plans for Solids nesting in Mastercam or is anyone doing it now at all? Pete.
  14. If I create a nesting of say 30 shts (one sided) with "Auto Sheet Origins" checked, will it create new "Named views" for each sheet or simply lay them out with the specified sheet spacing as "new views". When I do this I don't get any new views showing up in the view manager so I assume I have to go ahead and actually set them up on the corner of each sheet in the View Manager. Pete.
  15. Can I automatically generate a WCS when I create a nesting on standard sheets with "auto sheet origins" checked in the nesting settings. Or can that only be done manually through View Manager? Pete.
  16. When blockdrill is used our post processor will retract all drills between drill selections rather than leave the ones that will be used on the next drill position down. This adds so much cycle time that I just don't use it unless it's a simple drill pattern that doesn't require much sorting in MC. Any ideas how we can edit it to work better? Pete.
  17. When I try deleting a part from the list in the nesting parameters window Mastercam crashes and the message across the top frame edge of the nesting setup box says "entity is not of type expected". Requires shutting down and reopening MC. However I tried saving the nesting and reopening before deleting which then worked. Any ideas what is wrong with it and how I might fix it? Pete.
  18. Properties on the shortcut had mcxmMastercam.exe/R1/H. Deleted the /R1/H. Seems fine now. Thanks for the pointer.
  19. When I start X3 i get this message box "Product Level Override". HASP type and product level are shown. I click OK and continue as usual. Why does this message appear and can I remove it?
  20. Ajmer, Brilliant, thank you so much. Peter.
  21. Why does Mastercam start installing when I select a MCX file in "My Computer"? It looks for the install disc and locks up "My Computer". Is there a setting in Mastercam I need to change or is it in "My Computer"?
  22. Why would I get "Product Level Override" message at the startup screen? This is not really a problem, it doesn't affect my jobs, but I noticed it started when I had a look in MC Launcher and it's bugging me. How do I stop it? Peter.
  23. When I copy operations from one toolpath to another I edit common parameters such as origin and nc. name. But when I post the toolpath group I get an error in Mastercam and NCPlot opens twice once with error details the other is blank. What's going on? Am I copying toolpaths or not editing common parameters correctly? Pete.
  24. Only in "My Computer" when I select and open an X3 file it instantly starts installing Mastercam and asks for the CD-Rom. This is really annoying. Has anyone had this problem and know what to do about it?
