  1. based on the angle you give, it will swap between z level cutting and 3d offset. anything larger than the angle you give will be z level, and below will be offset.
  2. I have .005 stock to leave on floors and walls.
  3. I just did another rest mill. This time I used a 3mm tool with a .5mm corner rad. the first tool was a 4mm with a 1mm corner rad. I updated the stl after verifying the 4mm. every radius on the part is accessable to the 4mm tool except for a few sharp corners where i need the .5 mm corner rad and some ribs. So after backplotting the toolpath, i see the 3mm goes almost everywhere the 4mm went and doesn't even touch the ribs at all. I've already tried using the tool diameter and one other operation, no dice.
  4. I referenced an stl file instead and now it works. I find this happens to me all the time with mastercams restmill. Its never consistent. Sometimes I HAVE to use STL or nothing will happen and other times I HAVE to use tool diameter cause it won't read the STl properly and ends up machining a ton of air. Thanks for the replies everyone
  5. I'm using a 4mm tool chasing a 10 mm tool. stepover is 55% with .004 stepdown. Going a total of .371 depth in the deepest area. Tolerance is set to .0025. I'm just referencing the tool diameter and radius for the rest mill. also I have it set to ignore small cusps with an adjust distance of .005.
  6. I'm trying to do a rest mill operation in X4 Mu3. The regular surface restmill won't work at all, it gives me a tool path calculation error. The HST toolpath starts calculating but so far it hasn't finished. I've let it go for about 1 hour. I already programmed the first half of the mold with no problems. Didn't take anywhere near an hour for any of the toolpaths.
  7. Does mastercam have a tool that will display all the dimensions of internal and external fillets? As seen here http://www.camtool.net/features.php#MODELING Right now i'm using smart dimension, but it doesn't work all that well. We are currently using the latest version of X4.
  8. I recently downloaded the free trial of this software. Other than the adaptive clearing, does this software have any other benefits over X4? I didn't notice any different features in the finishing tool paths. MC has smoothing in the HS toolpaths and now also supports dual core. Is their smoothing different or better in some way? Basically, is this a waste of time if i'm running X4?
  9. Are they going to upgrade any of there HSM toolpaths? I see they have a HSM add on. Why isn't this already included in the software so we don't have to buy an add on to get the HSM paths to do what they are supposed to in the first place?
