  1. I received this a few weeks ago and thought I would put it out her to see what anybody thought. As you may know, when/if a worm virus gets into your computer it heads straight for your E-mail address book, and sends itself to everyone in there, thus infecting all your friends and associates. This trick won't keep the virus from getting into your computer, but it will stop it from using your address book to spread further, and it will alert you to the fact that the worm has gotten into your system. Here's what you do: First, open your address book and click on "new contact," just as you would do if you were adding a new friend to your list of E-mail addresses. In the window where you would type your friend's first name, type in "A". For the screen name or E-mail address, type "[email protected]". Now, here's what you've done and why it works: The "name" "A" will be placed at the top of your address book as entry#1. This will be where the worm will start in an effort to send itself to all your friends. But, when it tries to send itself to [email protected], it will be undeliverable because of the phony email address you entered. If the first attempt fails (which it will because of the phony address), the worm goes no further and your friends will not be infected. Here's the second great advantage of this method: If an email cannot be delivered, you will be notified of this in your In Box almost immediately. Hence, if you ever get an email telling you that an email addressed to [email protected] could not be delivered, you know right away that you have the worm virus in your system. You can then take steps to get rid of it!
  2. Looking to see which works better for MC use. Any recommendations would be helpful. Thanks in advance.
  3. Does anyone have any exposure to the "Cerified Manufacturing Engineer" designation offered through the SME? Has it helped you professionally or as a Programmer? I hear rumblings that this maybe a desired qualification for future programmers here and would like to know if this is a trend. Thanks for the time.
  4. We are looking to take a blank part and 1.Quickly import a raster file (such as a logo), convert it to vector and engrave the top face. Looking to do this reliably in under 15 minutes. 2. Show the finished solid/surface model with a color and the engraved work as silver. This is what would happen if you took an anodized part and engraved through the anodize. Machining operations need not be done at his point. 3. Send an electronic file to a customer for verification purposes and the customer would be able to manipulate the model to see it from different angles. Perhaps this would be via a link to a website where this process could take place. We have several companies interested in having this done but have several hundred different graphics options they wish to view. They feel perhaps some graphics will not look very good in this process, or size or color etc. and want to verify via electronic model prior to approval of the part. We are using Draftsman 2000 for the raster to vector conversion (which usually takes longer than 15 minutes alone)and Mastercam V9 for the machining. Anyone have any ideas on how the rest can be done? Thanks in advance.
  5. I am looking to see if anyone is aware of 3D artwork library's. I'm not talking about tooling or hardware. I'm talking about animal heads, sports symbols, and just misc artwork. It would sure save time if it is out there. Thanks.
  6. Looking for a source for 3D geometry that can be downloaded in IGES, DWG, DXF, etc. Anyone have any ideas?
