  3. I'm looking for some recommendations for Machining Estimating software. Our current system is rather cumbersome. Is anyone having good success with software that can recognize solid features and create the quote based on shop specific parameters? Thanks.

  6. I must be doing something wrong here. When I go into File, Import Folder, Select a Folder, I don't see an option to select specific .mcx files. There are other file format options such as IGES or.X_T but not .mcx files. What am I missing here? Thanks.

  8. I have put a file on the FTP in "X4 Files" named FB028 Open Pocket. I have tried 3 diferent approaches to an open pocket in a solid model. Area Clear, Open Pocket and Dynamic Mill. I am not getting any of these to work. Area Clear wants to come down in the middle of the part. Open Pocket will start off the end of the part and then cut all the way to the middle of the part and then begin a regular pocketing routine even though the Open Pocket switch is selected on the Cut Parameter Page. And 2D Dynamic Mill doesn't give me any toolpath at all. Thanks in advance.

  10. I was thinking .003 feed was light also. It sounded like the variable flute/variable index concept would prevent chatter and allow increased feed. When I did a search on the forum I did not find any comments on this particular brand. I appreciate the feedback everyone.
  11. Has anyone had a any experience with their variable flute, variable index Silver Back end mills for aluminum? We have been using Dataflute but I'm interested in seeing what is currently a better performer. Thanks in advance.

  13. I appreciate all the input and the effort by everyone. We have reduced it down to about 20 minutes. I guess I don't completely understand the references to "Chip Thinning". Could someone provide additional info on exactly what this should entail. Nick - I really found your comment about the size of the cutter insightful as I had wondered if this was just too big.
  14. Jay, I have not tried dynamic mill but I will look into it. For HS roughing should I be using a corn cob style cutter or a standard aluminum cutting endmill. Chris, I appreciate your effors on this. I'll let you know what we find out.
  15. Great questions. Max RPM is 12,000. It has a BT40 taper and the length of the cut on the end mill is 3 inches. Thanks.
  16. We have a part that is 7"x7"x3" aluminum and is taking 50 minutes to rough on an 3yr old Hardinge VMC. I am using Surface High Speed Core Roughing, 1" dia 3 flute Data Flute cutter in a mill chuck, DOC of .5 and .2 stepover. It wants to chatter and the operator cuts the feed to 20ipm at about 3500 rpm to stop it. I would welcome some suggestions on the best way to rough this part. Is HS the way to go? Or do I use a Corn Cob Rougher for deeper cuts per pass? I put it on the FTP site under X4 files and named it High Speed Flange. Thanks in advance.
  17. Thanks for the help! I tried exactly what Matt suggested and it worked! That is strange to me that it wouldn't work correctly from the solid.
  18. I'm having a problem machining a customer supplied solid model. It was modeled in Solidworks and saved as a .x_t file. My problem is when I machine the cavity, one face will not completely remove all the material leaving a rise in the bottom of the first slot of about .04. I don't know if it is a problem with the solid or something I'm doing wrong. I loaded the file on the FTP and the name is DARM6-12-09 OP3 Fixture. Thanks for any help.
  19. We currently have 2 Haas mills (VF-4 and VF-8) and are in the market for anothe mill. We have Hardinge lathes and are looking at a Hardinge XV1000 or VF-3SS. The Haas have been ok but looking to see if the Hardinge would be a better machine. We are somewhat remote in relation to the location of dealers and these are the closest to us. Does anybody have any thoughts or experience here? Thanks.

  22. Each part has 1 hole in the center that can range in size from .125 to 1 inch. I should have explained my last post better. Thanks.
  23. The parts have a variety of holes from .125 to about 1.0 inches.
  24. Looking for some recommendations for parting 2 inch diameter M-2. We are currently using a Sandvik insertable partoff tool that is .125 wide in their grade 4025. The speed is 225 and feed is .003/rev. The problem is we are only getting about 10 parts per insert and have about 450 parts to make. I'm open to all recomendations. Thanks in advance.
