  1. Hi Greg: Yes please, I would be very interested in seeing what you have done to your post and trying it out. What configuration is the 50e? I'm not familiar with that machine. Thanks for the reply; my e-mail is [email protected]
  2. Can anyone recommend a usable post for a Deckel Maho DMU 50 T? This is a 3-axis mill with the B and C axes being manually positioned. The post we currently use (dmg.pst) does not utilize cutter comp, the tool change line is incorrect and the drilling routine is nowhere near correct. Every program we post requires lots of editing. Any help from the board would be appreciated. Thanks
  3. Okay all you Solids experts: my shop receives most files as solids which we then convert to wireframe/surface iges files. How would I benefit from buying and using the solids package? Any input would be appreciated Thanks Ken Nelson
  4. Hi Jay: Thank you very much for the file - that's what I was looking for. I thought, however, that I would be able to program some sort of surface cut to achieve this. I'm a believer in using any method that works though. I'm about to order the 4 and 5 axis machining book from this site; is that a good resource for this type of situation? Thanks again Jay Ken Nelson
  5. I'm trying to generate a simple rotary cut on a cylinder and need help please. The part is mounted on a full rotary table, rotating about the X axis on a VMC. Part diameter is 11.260", and I simply need to cut a 2-1/2" square pocket with .281" corner radii, .03" deep, the floor of which is concentric to the o.d. The geometry I'm using is customer supplied and is a surface/wireframe model, so I would not use projected geometry. Z-zero is the center of the part is. I have tried surface/finish/parallel/rotary axis (all three positioning types) with varying degrees of success. I have also tried Multiaxis/Curve5ax/4axis output. ARRRRGGGGHHH! I cannot make Mastercam output good code. This seems like it should be a straightforward cut, and hopefully some of you are able to help. Any help is appreciated. Ken Nelson
  6. Hi Ricky: Here's the db-25 cable pinouts that work for all controls in our shop: 2-------------3 3-------------2 4,5 4,5 (jumper these) 6,8,20 6,8,20 (jumper these) 7-------------7 (optional) There are many variations on this (I'm sure a lot of people will chime in), but this works, even though a number of folks have come in and said it will not. Hope this helps Ken Nelson (Pebcak Specialist) By the way, our Prototrak MX 2s have db-25 plugs on the back of the control.
  7. I have begun experiencing 2 problems in V8, both having to do with toolpath generation failures. Neither of these problems occur in 2 axis programming. In 3d programming, (for example, after creating a surface/finish/parallel cut) V8 occasionally tells me "Toolpath Generation Failed. Save Operation?" This occurs after I have set the tool and cut parameters. The 2nd error I sometimes receive is with a successfully saved cut, when I try to change any parameter (rpm, feedrate, etc.), the cut will not regenerate. The red "X" remains in the operations manager. Does anyone have any ideas? Again, this is a sporadic problem. Thank You Ken Nelson
  8. Our shop just picked up a Matsuura ES450H horizontal with a Fanuc 18iM control. I need to modify a post to enable the rotary positioning feature. Can anyone shed some light on which lines and settings I need to change in the post? I believe I have to change the "rot_on_x" and "index" lines. I haven't had any success with the changes I've made. Thanks in advance Ken Nelson
  9. I'm running Win98. How do I get the correct icon to appear on these posts? I click the monitor icon but when the post shows it has a notepad-looking icon. I know it's really easy to do, but I can't get it to work. Is a single click all it should take? Thanks Ken Nelson
  10. Thanks Dave! I'll give that a try and let you know how that works. Ken Nelson
  11. Does anyone here use a Radeon video card by ATI? Shaded surfaces do not show up shaded, and I can not rotate a part to view. I have the latest Radeon drivers. Any ideas? Thanks
