we have a st-20Y with the VDI turret. For our application I'm glad I went with the VDI. With the VDI turret and the tailstock on the ST20-Y there is X travel limitations when using boring bars. With our ST-20Y you can't get to X 0 with boring bars much bigger than around .750 min bore with standard holders. If you have to face the back of a bore to X0 there are clearance issues. With the hybrid or BOT turret this won't be an issue. The average size part for us is about 1.-1.5" dia. We prototype and do small production runs of 50-200 parts at a time. We only cut brass,316ss and plastics. I really like being able to threadmill those small holes in 316ss. Overall I'm happy with the lathe. If your looking at a tailstock in a ST-10 I think it gets pretty tight.
We have a new lathe with a presetter it's a HAAS ST20Y. This is the first lathe presetter I've used. When touching off endmills with a radial live tool what's the best way to do this. For example a mill probe actually spins the endmill in reverse to get the diameter. Without the tool spinning, if the tool is rotated slightly you may be off a bit.
could I try and mount an indicator on the presetter and rotate the tool to find the main diameter of the endmill and then bump off?
Would you cheat in the control and say the endmill is a little bigger and then adjust or even use a test part and mill a pocket
what do you guys do?
Thanks
Hello guys
Is it possible to blank the lathe stock and chuck on say level 3? I'm wanting to draw a custom lathe tool on level 3 to stay with the lathe file. I can't seem to figure out how to get the stock and chuck to not show. I don't know if it will cause an issue with the custom tool. It would be nice not to see the stock and chuck on level 3 with the tool. I'm using X5MU1
This is what I'm trying to do in lathe: link from a In House video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w54DywBujVU&feature=plcp&context=C3a60786UDOEgsToPDskKOFgcjoFqSDqSAf6E1W36c I've never done this be4
Thanks for the help
