  1. Murlin,

OK now you've done it.....Im gonna take my chances and go to the Outback tonite

Why in the world would you go to Outback for Beef?

I'm a TEXAN living in Nashville, Sure there is an Outback just down the street from my home here; but if I was back home in TEXAS I'm sure I could find a much better place to eat a BEAN.

    Happy Dining! cheers.gif I'm jealous.

    Andrew.

  2. Yall must admit though, it sure is fun to look at those fancy toolboxes. I dont think I couldn't keep up with the tools inside, Let alone the box, but it sure looks nice.

My brother has a real nice toolbox with all the tools, but -

You will ALWAYS find what your looking for on the ground, (in the oil) under the old truck, in then middle of the shop - You know, the one without a motor.

He will never admit to loosing a single tool.

The SnapOn man took it on his last visit.

  3. Version 1-100 in one day. I have gotten so tired of loosing my work by either failing to save or MCam crashing that I save often often often- My Customers Laugh at me.

    second nature "Esc."- "Esc." - "F" - "S" - "Enter" - "Enter" - "Enter" - "Esc."

I dont know what is worse. Having 100's of files and not being able to find what you need or loosing work.

It all stinks. Secretarial skillsa up there with the things I'm not any good at.

    Andrew. wink.gif

  4. Is it possible to select several enities and make a single attribute the same amoung them all.

Specifically the Z? I have a drawing where alot of the lines are at random z depths and I would like to bring all of the back to Z0 all at one time.

Likewise, sometimes I have alot of circles (T/Nut Holes) and I would like to change the Diameters of all at one time.

    Have a great day! Andrew.

  5. Rick,

I haven't yet been able to come across a file that I can send you that has both original and copyed geomerty.

Although, today when I roteted (90 degrees) this simple rectange that I was working on, I noticed that it changed from four lines to 4 four nurbed splines or something like that.

    quote:

most projections and some translations will result in splines instead

I have tried to look up 'projection' in the mastercam glosery - but my request would not stop crashing the help program - so I figured I would ask you.

Why do you think my rotation changed 4 lines to splines.

and how is translation diffrent that projetion.

    Thanks.

  6. Thad,

Pretty much anything in the Xform menu:

    Translate

    Mirror

    Rotate

Im not sure what causes this to happen. I think it happens after my initial drawing is compleate and I begin to move parts around in order to cut the project. (I use V8.1.1 waiting for my copy of V9)

    Andrew.

  7. Sometimes when I'm working on a project that requries me to move my geomerty around alot, I have found that my circuler geomotery will likely to turn into splines.

    I can't figure out why.

I don't think I know enough about what a spline is to understand what exactly changes an arc to a spline.

All I know is that I usually don't like splines just showing up in my work with out my creating it.

    Andrew.

  8. quote:

Under folder options in windows set it to show all files(or register mc8 files as viewable.)

    Jimmy

    Daniel,

Jimmy was correct - When I got to work today I noticed that my office XP showes all MC8 files.

Its my home XP that doesn't.

After speaking with Richard at work I discovered that he had changed the START/CONTROL PANNEL/FOLDER OPTIONS:

Under the VIEW tab uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types" cool.gif

I have tried several diffrent settings and it appears to me that this is the only one that makes the large MC8 Files names disappear and reappear.

    Andrew. cheers.gif

  9. quote:

I have a collection of shirts from all over the world, but I am missing Israel (isk) and Brazil and TN, and some of the locations I see where you guys are from.

There are two or three HD Dealerships in Nashville. Would you like a HD shirts with Nash,TN on it?

If so, your welcome to E-Mail me. I would be happy to run by and place your order. I need need go christmas shoping for my brother anyway.

    Andrew.

  10. I think that this is a real issue for all programmers.

    Im a programmer/woodworker not a secretary.

I do run my own business though and would think that atleast one of my 4 computers could track my work for me.

I am able to charge by my programing but cant seam to be able to keep track of what im doing. therefore cant really charge for untracked time.

I feel like I work on hundreds of files a day sometime and have found the SEARCH FILE to work well. but as far as changes to files and reasons for making changes I find my self lost. I try to make notes by creating-drafting-notes and date and time the changes with arrows that point but that takes time. time is money.

And of course each customer and project has its own folder either dated or name. and subfolder and sub-sub-sub-folder with the sub-backup folder. inside the sub-sub-folder. smile.gif

4 computers and not one tracks my progress for me.

this is why I find this topic to be a very important issue.

How about a voice recorder taged along with the mc8 file inorder to make verbal remarks smile.gif !

    Is this a C-Hook thing? Lets learn C smile.gif !

    Andrew.

  11. I have tried to do the "Push&Key*" and was unsucessful - although I havent started to use C-Hooks as much as Im looking forward to.

After looking at some of my options like the "upper button bar" I discovered the quick keys.

I like the Alt-BS to open a C-Hook Idea better than looking for buttons, although the button idea is great and will surely add more of those that I use into place.

Several weeks ago I found out about Properties/Short cut keys. Example:

    1. I have set my onscreen calculator to Ctrl-Alt-6

    2. MastrerCAM to Ctrl-Alt-1

    3. Outlook Ctrl-Alt-2

I use the Calculator hourly and got tired of the start menu.

    Andrew.

  12. I looked in the faqs and couldn't find any info on XP and Files not showing up.

I will be going back to work on Tuesday and will try and spend some time working with the diffrent suggestions.

About mastercam crashing while in the file get/save areas.

    - I have found Mastercam to be a little sensitive in trying to perform some file management functions like:

    1. Changing file names

    2. Draging folders into other folders

Therefore when working on big files I try to

    1. save often

    2. save carefully

Have a good day. I will try to write back tomorrow.

    Andrew.

Oh ya, Thanks for the help!

  13. Are C-Hooks difficult to write?

I used my first C-Hook the other day and became very excited. I cant wait to learn how to incorporate them into my regualr menu options instead of CTRL-C route.

MasterCam is extreamily functional but I was really suprised when I discovered the C-Hook and how much more functional MCam will become.

    Andrew.

  14. Will this question just finaly make its way off the list of things to consern our selfs with?

Is there a solution to this and all other problems?

Will I have to wait to upgrade to V9 before I can see all MC files in my file get folder (AKA C:Data/....)

    Andrew.

    Had a great Thanksgiving.

  15. Hate to reply so fast - but I was looking at the properties of a sample of the file in my Data folder and all I can see diffrent is the file name it self.

Files that dont show up are:

    - Files names over 8 chrs in length.

    - File names with chrs other than "a-z"

this only started to happen when I switched to a computer other than WIN98.

    Andrew.

  16. I have had the same problem.

When Getting files, most of the time, only half of the file list is shown - There appears to be no reason for the files it shows vs. the files that arnt shown.

    It is very frustrating

But less so than some of the other problems I have discovered with Mastercam in the file get or save areas.

Like selecting the "Show all files" option - we find a way to work around it.

I will watch this form hopefully for the answer to our question with this.

    Andrew.

  17. Rick,

yes, but it did work when I was using Win98..

I probably will network it through the old 98 computer like you said.

It just boggles my mind though. Like I said eariler - I just wished it would have worked when I needed it to.

Things like this take way too much time and cost too much money to resolve so many times.

This is the first time that I have used the Form and I have really enjoied all the help and support.

I look forward to working with yall and hope that I can offer advice also instead of always asking all the questions.

Although I have many questions on my mind.

    Talk to yall later.

    Andrew.

  18. Topic: help!!! Could Mastercam be installed on win98?

    - Mastercam can be installed on just about any computer.

    - If it will work or not is the important question.

    - win98 worked for me.

    - I just switched to a faster XP computer and although my Win98 computer was FAST - the XP is 3x FASTER.

Mastercam is easy to enjoy on any computer.

    Andrew smile.gif

  19. thanks chris, it looks like there are alot of hasp resources there.

Thnaks Matt, I did download that HASP update when we switched to winXP, it allowed mastercam to run on xp, as far as I know that is all it did..

And Rick - I downloaded this driver on friday - as far as I know it is the latest available but I might give XEROX a call.

Several months ago I had a network admin. look at my network and he had something to say about this piticular printer and its driver, even though at the time it worked - it wouldnt work hooked up to a print server. so he networked it through my win98/mastercam computer.

when we switched computers around it wouldn't work on the XP/mastercam computer.

  20. All these options look good, and it is parell only printer.

    - I voted for the buying a new printer, that was my first thought - but its actually 1 of 2 good printers that we currently use in the office and I dont have any money right now - I GAVE that out on pay day.

it did work well when it was networked with another computer so I will probabily go with that option.

But I wish it worked when I needed it.

I am going to try the communication issue and also check the HASP update.

    - Matt, your link goes directly to a download. is there a url I can go to in order to read about what it is Im downloading?

Thanks - Rick and Matt - I will let you know what I figure out on Monday back from the shop.

    Andrew.
