  1. I do actually.

What I did 3 years ago to fix this was to adjust the "follow rules" drop down button adjustment:

Its the button with arrows going in opposite directions, next to the settings button under planes tab:  Uncheck the "Cplane = Top in isometric gview"  Supposedly, this should fix it...

  2. Soooooooo… i'll try to keep this TL;DR:

Big boss wants us to cut down / stop using mazatrol for the Mazak lathe and use mastercam.  So machine was built 03 / 2007, and CIMQUEST gave us a Mazak nexus post file that one of their customers use for us.  Now I've never seen a Mazak lathe G & M code file and it looks greek to me.  Would anyone here be familiar with a Mazak multiplex program?

Included is the code file below:
I'm hoping with someone else looking at this who is more familiar with Mazak G&M codes would tell me if its good or not...

Not all of this program is there, but some of it...

  3. Thanks.

I do have an account @ mastercam, but they blocked access to the forums for me.... i'm like wtf..

I did look yesterday at the driver folder and OpenCL is indeed one of the files listed there, but I thought there might've been an option in the software to force the card to use OpenCL 100%...

  4. So, my co worker told me about openCL as a tool for improving mastercam performance with nvidia cards.   We have a Quadro K620 and I'm wondering if OpenCL will work on that or if there is even a setting inside the software?  I just downloaded the latest drivers and I don't see the setting there for open CL, so i'm wondering if the card supports it or not...

    Thoughts?

  5. Soo.... we found a fix somewhat.  Seems to hold up....

In order to prevent mastercam from doing what it wants to do, we imported a solid model and saved it to a temp folder.  Then we proceeded to make the changes to the machine definition - file locations and tool database.... then it worked.   For some reason mastercam does not like it when it works from a blank page.

    go figure.

  6. Here is what worked for us in 2019:

    Selected items data path:

    \\companyname\Division\Manufacturing\Programming\

This points to the main directory, but when we are in sub directories where the mcam part files are, the data path would auto change and be part of that directory.

But in 2020, the data path remains unchanged.

Don't symbolic links mean too much work?  I'm at a loss as to how to go about doing that.... since i'm reading off of here:   https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/16226/complete-guide-to-symbolic-links-symlinks-on-windows-or-linux/

I'm too frustrated with 2020 and for now i'm shelving it due to it being too unstable.

  7. I'm basically using the same settings in 2020 as 2019 for machine data path.... problem is  it wants to post it in the main folder and not the sub folder where the actual .mcam file is - just doesn't want to post it there and doesn't want to follow the appropriate folder paths... I hate going thru this every time and when it works, its awesome, when it doesn't, its frustrating.  I don't want to have to do this manually every time we select a machine - that isn't productive.

    Anyone has a fix?

Make sure none of those files are on local box...it has always had a way of running home to the C drive if those files reside there as well

So, I deleted my config and let mastercram create a new one, copied over my workspace files - reset whatever settings I have in the config to as close as I can remember then I had to go through the pain of setting up everything else the way it needs to be then that seemed to fix it.

The only issue is the autosave box keeps popping up - this wasn't an issue and we do not have prompt before saving checked so I don't know.

Mastercam still wants to search for those files on the local box and not where it is told to look...

a co worker had this issue on Friday, funny it fixed itself after some use.  this isn't productive tho.

  10. So I noticed when selecting a machine under properties, I have everything pointing to the server since we share tool libraries and operation filepaths…

I set everything to point to the server.  Yet when I pull up a existing file that was made and re-select the machine, those file paths change to the C drive default file paths, which I do not want - happens over and over... whats up with that?  Anyone else have that issue?

This is a repost from a similar thread...

When you get the warning, press "ok", then go click on the "Axis Combinations" button. (next to the "Edit the Control Definition" button).

The Axis Combinations dialog will appear. Expand the "Tree" for each branch, and check X, Y, Z, and any Rotaries. (be careful, depending on how the tree is constructed, there may be a "mill table", then both rotaries, and then a "mill chuck". If you enable the "mill table", then the rotaries can be grayed out.)

You need to select all three linear axes, one or two rotaries, and then a "Tool Holding Component" and a "Work holding component". This is typically a Mill Spindle, and a Table or Chuck.

Once you enable all the components in the Axis Combination, just save the Machine Definition as normal.

Thanks Colin!  I would never have thought of this.

This happens after I save.... funny I checked the axes and they were all checked, but somehow they become unchecked which is why I have to go back into machine definition again... this seems odd.

  12. I'm getting the same thing, Tried old bear's suggestion, not working.  Still getting same message.  I've NEVER had this issue before, ever.  I've always migrated from folder to folder without any issues and I expected this time to go just as smoothly.  nope.

    Any more advise?

  13. Kinda wish we had the inline spindle.  Ours is offset and has a belt from the motor to spindle.  We don't seem to have much of an issue with tramp oil in the coolant tank, which is a good thing.  Can't say the same for the Doosan.

Is the inline spindle better for torque and power than what I currently have?  I know our HAAS cannot drill with a 2.5" Drill and bigger on Stainless.  I've stalled the machine multiple times trying to drill out a thru hole into a 6" Cube of 304L SS.

  15. I've been trying to use the rotary axis positioning for countoring chains instead of planes and that didn't go well for me.  I was really hoping it would make it easier to program, but no such luck.

I've had to use planes to set the rotations due to features on each surface not being the same as the first side.  My shop does a lot of custom parts with the odd angle here and there.

I will say the Haas controller is the most friendly of all the ones Ive worked on.  Now one thing changed 6 years or so ago. the lube oil changed from Vactra 2 to Mobil SCH 625 at Haas request. The reason is Vactra 2 takes on water and rusts the ball screws and bearings.

I agree the HAAS controller is the most user friendly.  Did not take me long to figure out where everything is and I was surprised at the ease of learning how to work my way through everything within 5 hours of on-line instruction.

Mobil SCH 625 2 for the slideway oil or head oil or for everything?

  17. So, 15 mins ago our Doosan stalled trying to tap a 1-8 thread.  What I didn't know is Doosan is set to tap holes in high gear.  No matter the speed that its set to, it wants to tap in high gear only.

Would anyone know how to change this?  Currently we don't have a threadmill to do a 1-8 hole...
