Yea. I just threw away my Compact II manuals a few months ago. You can imagine how may times I needed those in the past 30 years.
I should have kept them. You never know when APT programming will come back.

Yes. With the DOS Extenders so you could run the 700KB Mastercam.exe file in our mighty 386 computers with 1MB of RAM in EGA mode (640x350).
NO I DONT MISS THOSE DAYS.

"Mike is the guy who always gets "randomly choosen" for a strip search at the airport in the security line..."
Yea but that's the part I enjoy most about traveling. Nothing like a good strip search I always say.

Isn't the ProE converter an option in Mastercam?

I dont think so. I did spend some time talking to Ed at the "game night". To bad we didn't get a chance to chat. I was hanging with Chris Kozell. I would have thought he'd point you out.
So, I'm sure we drank at the same bar and attended some of the same break-out sessions. Maybe we'll meet face to face next time.
I did do a presentation at the main meeting. Did you see the MastercamU presentation with Gene Welti and Mike Freimann? I did a 10 minute talk about the new content on MastercamU.com web site.

Sounds like your running X4 now, but your post was not updated properly. There was some kind of bug in the X3/X4 conversion of MPMaster.
Do a search on this forum for more information.

I would use the Solidworks file and import it using the File - Merge.
It allows you to place it at any location you want and change the orientation, during the import.

Hi Mike,
I'm only back as far as this forum is concerned. Mastercam has always been close to my heart.
Yea those conferences are always good. Good people, good food, good information, good training. It's a privilege to work with the people at CNC.

I cant tell from the picture. What version is that?
Just in case your disks have gone bad, I have a set also. Would you like 5.25 or 3.5" floppies. My 5.25 go back to V3 but the 3.5" floppies only go back to V7. I also have a full set of CD's starting at V5.
That's not counting the crap I threw out before we moved.

The easiest way would be to hard code it into the start of file (psof) and the Tool change (ptlchg), to be on all the time.
Then in the drilling section you can put in the code to turn it off.
As much as I dislike hard coding things into the post, I think this one would be OK.
Another alternative would be to put something at the Tool change section that checks for drill and either turns if on or off. Something like....
if opcode = 3 # opcode 3 is for drilling
[
pbld, n$, "enter off code here", e$
]
else, pbld, n$, "G05 P1000 R10", e$
This should be close (it's late, I'm tired)

For 5x you need to place your part in relation to where it will be on your table in World Coordinates. All of your tilt angles and position need to be in relation to some fixed point. World Coordinates. Whoever wrote your 5x post should have explained that to you.

"How is Mastercam written"
Mastercam's been around so long, the original version was written on stone tablets.

Running XP64 right now. Hardly seems worth the bother for 10%. Plus, if U have to put it in XP mode and turn off the eye candy, what's the point.
I'll wait till I get a new PC, which is not in the near future for me.

Hello All,
Been away from this forum for a while. Thought I might start spending a little more time here.
Just moved to Mesa AZ. and we're pretty well settled in. Any Phoenix/Mesa people here? Have to get together for a beer sometime.
Anyway, just wanted to say Hi.

If you have preview on, using large pictures, that might cause problems.

I dont understand the question? Your Levels are coming in wrong from X2 > X3?

Sounds like a Toolpath - Transformation with incrementing offsets.

Vista wont span 2 displays?
That doesn't sound right. Are you sure? Can anyone else confirm that? I have to have 2 displays. That would be a deal killer.

Jay, Are you running Vista 64bit?
There's a Home Ultimate?
I think this is another reason why people are staying away from Vista. People cant figure out all of the different flavors. No one knows what to buy.
Did you know there was a Vista Home Server? I need to upgrade my server and that flavor came up in one of my searches.
Thanks for the input,

Thanks for the feedback guys. But Which Vista, Business or Ultimate?
Ultimate looks like it has a ton of crap in it. It burns DVD's and has video editing. I already have software for all of that.

I'm looking to buy a new PC and was trying to figure out the mess that is Windows Vista. So...
Which version of Vista do you use?
and...
Will I see a performance boost in Mastercam by going to 64 bit?
Your valued opinions are appreciated.
Thanks,

Does X5 come with an uninstall utility?
in Industrial Forum
Posted
I've uninstalled/reinstalled at leas a dozen beta's and never had a problem. My X3 & X4 still work fine.
I'm very happy with the quality of X5.
As for "... with all the problems i see people haveing with X5 i havn't installed it yet."
If you go to the place where people look for answers to problems, Your going to see problems. You have to keep in mind that....
- Some of these are self inflicted
- Some are hardware related
- Some are just the learning curve of a new package
